when it's too hot for a holiday...

a good July 4th to everyone. hope this finds you cool and with a cold beverage in hand. the last time i recall a heatwave like this was back in 1988. i was 12 and ready to die. not much has changed...

if any of you are into podcasts i urge to go over to http://www.notsam.com/ and check out the Sam Roberts Show Online. a highly entertaining podcast if i must say. an enjoyable way to pass the time.

i'm hoping the Yankees can avoid the sweep today but my hopes aren't high. the quicker they can get out of that dump the better.

no real plans for today other than napping and watching tv. i'm hoping an urge to write erupts inside of me, but i really don't know if i want to force it out of me. if the earth moves, i'll be sure to pass along an update.

either the cats are hiding from the heat (85 degrees by 9 am) or they are dropping like flies. my gut says hiding. but we all know my gut has shit for brains. if they all end up going, i guess the cat food won't be eaten by raccoons, skunks and groundhogs anymore. just ask anyone who has ever been out here. it's a fucking zoo.

another morning in the 80's

always great when it's over 80 degrees before 8 am. looks like their forecast for about 2 weeks in the 90's is looking more and more correct. fuck.

i don't know what it is about that dump where the Rays play, but the Yankees have now lost 8 straight games there. quite a time for Tex to have his first error of the season. a house of fucking horrors. hopefully Nova can right the ship tonight as i don't want this week (2 more with the Rays, 4 with the Red Sox) to be the week where the Yankees shit away a 6 game lead before the all star break.

i had a cat that i thought for sure was dead suddenly reappear yesterday. Weezie Jefferson had been gone for over a month. came back rail fucking thin. if it makes it through this heat i'll be stunned. but welcome back my whiny friend. and yes, those small kittens are not toys.

as of 3 in the morning, the muse was back. always nice to hear her voice. best of luck with your big interview. you'll do great.

an afternoon with no internet

my internet was out from 8:15 this morning to 5:09 this afternoon/evening. that's alot of time to fill.
so, i want to thank the Dan Patrick Show, a trip to the post office, doing the dishes, reading the paper, jerking off to QVC (don't ask) and my constant need for music for getting me through the day. i don't know if i have ever played chess vs. the computer so many times in one day. i actually won a few for a change.

waiting on Parise and Suter to stop holding NHL free agency hostage. after those two make up their minds, the Rick Nash sweepstakes can begin. if the Rangers can get him without giving up any of the key kids, i'm all for it. it seems like he wants to be in New York, a welcome change from most years.

with the holiday approaching i'm hoping to get some writing done. those are my current plans for the 4th of July. i'd like to have a big submission pile by mid July, hopefully to take my mind off my book coming out soon. anxiety can be a mother fucker at times.

afternoon music:

Foster the People - Torches
Social Distortion - Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell
Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast

monday morning reflections

well, Spain certainly showed me that my guts have shit for brains. they absolutely destroyed Italy. i think i can feel pretty safe in my thoughts that they are the greatest national team in history. all in all, a pretty good EURO 2012. in a few weeks club pre-season play starts, so i'll enjoy all the rumors in the meantime.

a little underwhelmed with what the New York Rangers did yesterday. i don't think they made any mistakes actually, just curious to see how it will all work out. it will be hard watching Brandon Prust wearing a Montreal sweater. good for him to get the money and i'm really hoping one of the kids can step up on the penalty kill.

was nice to see the Yankees get a split of the series with the White Sox. kudos to Phil Hughes for putting on his big boy pants for a change and showing the lessons he has learned over the years. to get shit on in the first and then last 7 more innings and allow basically nothing, in that heat, fucking impressive.

speaking of heat, the run of 90 + degree days continue. can't be long until the insanity begins i imagine. at least i'm hoping...

a little story about life on the farm, etc.

so, last night i go to check to see if the back door is locked. i happen to look out the window and see a black cow about 4 feet from the door eating on some weeds. i go to get my mother and tell her "You've gotta fucking see this." She looks out the window and sees nothing, i'm thinking great, i'm having an acid flashback. i hit the outside flood lights and she says "Oh shit!" and flings open the back door. 2 cows and a steer. i go get a flashlight and get all the outside lights on. a phone call and some careful walking in the dark by smell and as far as i know, the cows were back on the farm next door. drenched in sweat, i went upstairs to find a fan and flip between Ring of Honor and Cinemax.

there's a little slice of life in the sticks.

hard to think it's already July 1. but, today is christmas for sports junkies.

NHL and NBA free agency starts.
Old Timer's Day at Yankee Stadium.
EURO 2012 final (My heart says Spain, my gut says Italy, i really just want to be entertained.)

i see a nice long day with the a/c and my chair watching some tv. racing to the computer to confirm some rumors and then a rest period on the shitter. hopefully i won't end up bored out of my mind. hype is such a double edged sword at times.

on a humid saturday

always nice when the Yankees get some good pitching, a few home runs and a win the day after having their asses handed to them by the White Sox. i'm looking forward to old timer's day tomorrow so i can feel older than i really am.

finally got a little rain last night. of course, it came with thunder, lightning and 60 m.p.h. winds. had a nice leak in the kitchen and the power went out just for a few seconds, knock on wood. but the crops desperately needed what we got and we didn't have much damage than a few limbs. better than most in this area, some will be without power until the 4th of July. Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

after hitting 102 and 99 degrees the last two days, so far today has topped out at 94. although, with the humidity it feels like 100. that could be my black t-shirt, i don't know. we're supposed to be in the 90's for the time being. like they usually are, i'm hoping the forecasts are wrong.

this was supposed to be posted about 4 1/2 hours ago but thanks again to Frontier Communications, my fucking internet was out for that time. i'm hoping there was either a horrific car accident that knocked it out or there better be a death involved. i'm just saying...

well well well

thank god i'm not a betting man any longer. Italy defended like gods today and it still stuns me that after all these years, Germany can't beat Italy when it truly matters. 2 great goals from that fucker Balotelli, though i'll never be happy for a guy who plays for Manchester City. should make for a very interesting EURO 2012 final with Spain.

as of sitting down to write this, it's 102 degrees outside. first time this area has hit 100 or more since 1988. spent 10 minutes outside giving the cats more water and felt like i stumbled into the Sahara. holy fuck it's hot.

busy night of tv ahead for me. NBA draft, Yankees vs. White Sox, Wilfred and Louie on FX, might sneek in a view of that turd of a show Duets and god knows what else. as long as the a/c holds up, i'm good.

music today:

Fitz and the Tantrums - Pickin' Up the Pieces

speaking of FATT, i throughly enjoyed the 2 FREE EP's they have put out this summer. if you ever get a chance to see them live, go. you will not be disappointed. go to their website for info on the free EP's.

bracing for the heat

so i should be happy with the Yankees sweeping the Indians but hard to smile when CC and Andy both go on the disabled list on the same day. i guess we'll see just how deep the pool is for the time being. god willing Adam Warren will take this chance and make the most of it. my best hope though is the home runs keep coming.

how in the fuck does CR7 not take a pk for Portugal today. mind blowing right there. a snooze of a game. reinforces my belief that whoever wins between Italy and Germany will win the whole damn thing. if i was a betting man, my money is going on Germany.

supposed to get up to 100 or damn near for the next 4 days or so. that should do wonders for the crops. hopefully the a/c doesn't decide to give up in this heat. and with it being so dry and the 4th of July coming up... shouldn't be long before some dumbass burns a field down with a sparkler.

this that and some other shit

my internet has been slower than shit today or completely out, so i'm trying to write this as quickly as possible. a nice FUCK YOU to Frontier Communications for this horse shit they call high speed internet. what a waste.

got 5 poems rejected today from Black-Listed Magazine. those will go back into the factory and i think they may end up overseas.

i guess after five earned runs R.A. Dickey isn't the second coming of Walter Johnson. imagine that. hopefully the Yankees can get a nice winning streak going again.

supposed to be near 100 degrees by the end of the week. not sure how the crops are going to survive. by then the ground might as well be concrete.

best of luck to the muse on her vacation to the great northwest. stay safe and relax for a change.

with the internet pissing me off, you can imagine there was some music listened to today.

Disturbed - Asylum

and then BOOM!

it was another Yankee game where i find myself wondering in the middle innings why the fuck do i bother to watch this team. constantly swinging at bad pitches and getting fooled by a guy with a bad arm and nothing over 85 mph.

and then BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a walk, a misplayed fly ball double and a home run. 3 pitches, score tied. 2 batters later Eric Chavez hits the first pinch hit home run of his injury riddled career and the Yankees have the lead. and then the best bullpen in baseball, even without the hammer of god (Mariano Rivera) struck out nearly everyone left in the game. a nice way to end a losing streak.

i have no clue if the Yankees will be able to hit a knuckle ball tonight or not.

i also have no clue who is going to win today between England and Italy in EURO 2012 action. could be a great chess match or just what i need for an afternoon nap. regardless, i think the finals will be Spain and Germany. both are just playing too good at the moment.

chance of rain tonight. yeah right.

looking forward to the new HBO show tonight, the newsroom or whatever the fuck it's called. looks like it will be pretty good.

it's friday already

was very happy for LeBron last night. i totally agree with what a reporter in Miami said he should do. size the championship ring for his middle finger. i know he won't, but that would make me a bigger fan.

i got a good laugh when the Greeks today tugged on superman's cape and tied the game with Germany at 1. the German response was clinical and deadly. 3 straight goals. Greece got a meaningless penalty kick goal late in the match but it was well decided by then. if the Germans don't make it to the final of EURO 2012 i'll be stunned.

the subway series starts back up tonight. not real interested in it, although the Mets closer calling the Yankees chickens hopefully starts a bean ball war. i would love to see a 1996 brawl like the one the Yankees had against Baltimore. good times.

got my business cards in the mail today. they are fucking spectacular. i love Vistaprint. i've been doing business with them for years and they never disappoint. highly recommended.

not a lot of music today as i snuck in a few cat naps. but i did manage to listen to this gem this morning:

Alice in Chains - Unplugged

i hope everyone has a great weekend. i'm hoping the Rangers have a good draft or at least make an interesting trade or two.

someone turn off the damn heat

some genius said it's supposed to rain tonight. i've stopped giving a shit...

nice win by Portugal today in EURO 2012 action. of course, anytime i can watch that clown goalie from Chelsea lose, i'm all in.

good news to report from The Camel Saloon. 2 of the 3 i sent were accepted for publication. i like that batting average. i'll post some links when they do get published.

looking forward to game 5 of the NBA finals tonight. maybe LeBron will win and everyone will shut the fuck up for a bit. for the sake of my sports talk ears, i hope so.

was hoping my new business cards would be in the mail today, like they said they were going to be. but, of course, they weren't. alas, there's always tomorrow.

a slow death

sat down at 1 to watch the Yankees. before i could get comfortable, the Braves are up 3-0. glad to see Phil Hughes revert back to the old version. then decided to go shave and shower. get all that done and the score is 6-1. instead of watching, i went and sent out some poems. get done with that and it's 6-4.

the Grandy man makes it 6-5. and then A-Rod steps up, runners on 1st and 3rd, a fucking fly ball ties the game and the asshole of course, hits into a double play.

and then came a slow death. defensive miscues, shitty pitching, an appearance by the human white flag Freddy Garcia and the Yankees lose 10-5.

YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

will pay a bit of attention to the NHL awards tonight. i'm hoping Hank can finally win the Vezina. will definitely make this Ranger fan very happy. also, will be nice to get the hockey juices going again with the draft and all the trade rumors heating up.

hotter than dog shit here today. no sight of rain. hopefully some tomorrow. any rain would help at this point. any.

poetry updates

i sent out 8 poems today, 3 to The Camel Saloon and 5 to Carcinogenic Poetry.

still waiting to hear from Black-Listed, Underground Voices, Zygote in My Coffee, Kill Poet, Big Hammer, Belly Fat Magazine, ZYX and Nerve Cowboy.

my first full length book, Sofisticated White Trash, is chugging along and nearing the final stages. i really think this book will shock some people. keep your eyes wide open for updates.

still have broadsides for sale. $3 each or both for $5.

all things must end

so the Yankees finally lost after 10 wins in a row. it was bound to happen given that they still can't hit with runners in scoring position. and any game where you get 2 runners thrown out at the plate, you deserve to lose. the train ride starts back up tomorrow. hopefully.

watched a good bit of the NBA finals game 4 tonight. looks like the Heat have learned a few lessons.

funny how the internet has been screwy for me lately but make a phone call, bitch and moan, get some free shit and suddenly it's working fine again. interesting.

i'll be sending out 8 poems here soon to 2 places. more details to come.

enjoyed Deadliest Catch again tonight, maybe one of the best shows on tv.

took a nice nap during EURO 2012 today. between the heat and how England plays, a nap was much easier than paying attention. was nice to see Rooney playing again though.

it was supposed to be raining...

woke up to a downpour, which was great. until it only lasted for 3 minutes. as of last night, it was supposed to rain all morning. why i bother to pay attention to weather forecasts...

happy father's day to all the good fathers out there. as for the bad ones like my own...

typed up 2 poems this morning. i really like them both. i'm hoping to send them out by the end of this week. i have a few places in mind.

another day of the Yankees, EURO 2012, a little Nascar and maybe a little NBA around my Showtime and HBO schedules tonight. other than taking out the trash and hopefully watching it rain, my day is pretty much set.

find the pleasure in the pain

got a little too much sun yesterday in my 5 hours of mowing grass on the farm. woke up with the shits this morning. the joy of being fair-skinned. my left leg got it real good. combine the heat, sweatpants and where the exhaust comes out on my riding lawn mower and you can imagine all the different colors my left leg is today. fun.

a big thank you to those who have inquired about the broadsides. they will be arriving shortly.

really enjoyed England vs. Sweden today in EURO 2012 action. a spectacular goal from Danny Welbeck to win it for England. certainly makes all of us Man U fans proud.

looking forward to the Yankees and Nationals tonight. should be an interesting test for both teams. hopefully the train keeps charging along.

an early happy birthday to my mother. you don't look your age.

i will spend the weekend writing, staying away from the sun, hopefully posting pictures of my paintings on here and praying for rain. we're more than 5 inches behind where we should be. and the soybeans are certainly showing it.
