a little sunshine and some basketball

i'm sitting here in the kitchen watching these small birds swarm over the bird feeders and fight for a spot to eat. it's like watching basketball players try to get a rebound. if the dumb shits would take a 20 second flight they would be in the front yard with even more food to choose from. that's the beauty of having a brain the size of the tip of a pen.

the New York Rangers truly impressed me last night. my favorite troll was at it again, The King was standing on his head and the Rangers came away with a 6-3 win over one of the hottest teams in the NHL. that's 7 wins in a row.

The Big Bang Theory was pretty fucking funny last night. if i ever had a woman show up at my door that looked that good and was smart, i'd probably die right on the spot. Life in Pieces was hilarious. that show is perfectly cast.

i did watch some of the football game last night. mom was not happy the Jets lost. neither was i, considering i picked them to win the game. only one of my opponents had players going last night in fantasy football. hopefully i will have a good weekend.

enjoy some music kids:

and now some of this and that:

the Dayton Flyers start their season tonight at home against Southeast Missouri State. i have some pretty high expectations this season for Dayton. i would love to see them make the tournament again as they haven't made it 3 seasons in a row since the 1960's. considering they are the favorites to win the A-10 this season, they have a great chance to do it.

on the DVR tonight while i'm at the basketball game will be Undateable, NJPW, The Knick and the USA men's soccer team first game in World Cup Qualifying. considering who they are playing tonight, if they lose i will go fucking nuts.

now, a little Flashback Friday poetry action. my poems "borrowed time" and "great expectations" were published by Underground Voices back in September of 2012. i thought both poems kind of fit today pretty damn good. you can find them by going here:
http://www.undergroundvoices.com/UVCampbellJJSEPTEMBER2012.htm

i will be on here tomorrow probably in the morning again as Ohio State plays tomorrow at noon.

i hope everyone has a wonderful start to the weekend. have a great Friday night. do something amazing and keep it a secret.

be well. be creative. be cool. be quick to send me CASH, panties, hate mail, love letters, broken promises and dirty pennies from heaven.

peace and chicken grease...

T. Rex - Bang a Gong (Get It On)

what goes up must come down (and incredibly hard)

where do i begin?

i survived yesterday, barely. getting my blood drawn was much easier than i expected. was probably in and out of the facility in 20 minutes at most. they took 3 vials of my blood. i guess i will get the results later this week. i will take it if i don't get a call, that's good news. my left arm did hurt for awhile afterwards, but i expected that. hadn't had my blood drawn in over 4 years.

as for the DMV, not bad either. got in and got out. my dumb ass wore my cheap glasses so i nearly failed the vision test. i guess they are cheap for a reason. (i'm back to the expensive pair today). the new Ohio driver's license has to be nearly impossible to duplicate and make it look exact. feel sorry for the kids today on that one.

was totally psyched to get the 4 poems published yesterday between The Camel Saloon and Thunder Sandwich. 2 of my favorite places to send to. check the poems out if you haven't. i believe 3 of the 4 are some of the best work i have ever done. also, if you ever have any comments on my work, feel free to send them my way or post somewhere. i do read them and respond when necessary.

was happy to see Manchester United win today in their FA Cup replay against West Ham. welcome back Wayne Rooney. nice goal in the 9th minute. would have been nice if he would have made the pk later on. but, a win is a win.

so, as i was readying my victory beer, i check my email and see a reply from The Gap Toothed Madness, a new print zine out of Sacramento, CA. they decided to pass on my work. i always find it funny when a place asks you to submit and then rejects what you send. oh well, been at this too long for that to stop me.

and then came the Dayton Flyers. no team that commits 24 or 25 or whatever un-fucking-believable amount of turnovers they did should be close in any game. but, of course they managed to lose by 2 to go 0-3 in conference play now. i can live with freshman doing stupid shit, especially on the road. but, when it's the seniors that suck ass, completely unacceptable. this is going to be one painful season.

thankfully, after the game, in my email, was the advance copy of the new book from RC Edrington, Scarred Canvas. holy shit, one of the best poetry books i have read in years. i believe the book is to come out later this year from Underground Voices. i urge all of you to pick up a copy when it does. it's fucking brilliant.

i will have four more new poems published whenever the new issue of Zygote in my Coffee comes out. be sure to check back here on the blog for that.

music today:

Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I Might See

i'm typing as fast as i can

since the internet has been a little more than spotty today (was out for more than 4 hours during one stretch) my nerves are a bit frayed and i'm a little pissy. got the important shit done though. fantasy football shit and game picks are made. next, poems...

i sent out 23 poems today to the following places:
The Montucky Review
Dead Snakes
The Camel Saloon
Gutter Eloquence Magazine
Underground Voices
Black-Listed Magazine

when i hear back from these places (hopefully with good news) i will post the responses on the blog.

was pleased with how team USA responded last night against Jamaica. i didn't like that they took the foot off the gas once they scored, but they won and got all 3 points. hopefully the wake up call was the only one needed.

i'm just about at the point of giving up on the Yankees. inventing new ways to lose like every other day it seems. thank god the NFL has started or i'd be on suicide watch with how this season has gone. i'm back in the not watching mode, trying anything to see if it can bring a win. i guess body hair is next on the list. great.

music today:

Beck - Odelay
Kristy Lee - In This Room
Trampled By Turtles - Burn For Free
Bruce Springsteen - Darkness on the Edge of Town
Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam
Paul Thorn - What the Hell is Goin' On?

"A good laugh is sunshine in the house." - William Makepeace Thackeray

when all else fails...

this blog post of really nothing is brought to you by www.riotcast.com. a totally enjoyable way to piss away an afternoon when you're doing anything you can to avoid hearing absolutely fucking anything about the New York Yankees.

as you might be able to tell, i have no confidence in the Yankees at the moment. NONE. Sweaty Freddy takes the hill tonight and i figure by the third inning i'll be contemplating shitting my guts out for fun.

nearly completely forgot i had some new poems up at Underground Voices. i actually remembered when i was driving to the post office. if i ever figure out why my brain works the way it does, i could be scary one day.

as for the post office...i'm not sure this town knows how thankful they should be at how patient i am with the elderly. blocking parking spots while waiting for another one to open up, not understanding how a copier works, not understanding how the money goes in. and all i'm trying to do is get the fucking mail without ending up in jail. FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! do they understand how hard they make this some days?

the sun came out today. the rain moved away but forgot to take the humidity with it. fuck me runnin' it's sticky as hell outside. the constant feeling that you haven't wiped your ass good enough....

and with that visual... hopefully i'll have better news to share tomorrow. but don't count on it.

music today:

Zac Brown Band - Uncaged
The Twilight Singers - Powder Burns
Ed Sheeran - +
Beastie Boys - The In Sound From Way Out!

a friday in june, stuck indoors

by choice. the sun tends to be my enemy these type of days.

great game from LeBron last night. as Dan Patrick said this morning, if they win game 7, it's historic, if they lose, it's a footnote.

not surprised the Yankees couldn't pull off the sweep. much easier to revert back to the old bullshit that sadly this season is being built upon. no shutdown innings, no key hits, no timely hits, blah blah blah. maybe the series against the Mets will get my juices going, but i doubt it.

watched the start of EURO 2012 today. i suppose my afternoons of music listening are going to be replaced for the next month or so.

i sent 5 poems to Underground Voices today. fingers are crossed.

other than the usual back pain and apathy, taking cat naps while watching soccer on tv in the air conditioning today wasn't that bad.

and it's always good to hear from a friend. hello.

not as much music today, but 2 of my favorites snuck their way into my ears

Jamey Johnson - That Lonesome Song
Cowboy Junkies - Studio: Selected Studio Recordings 1986-1995

"A flower cannot blossom without sunshine, and man cannot live without love." - Max Muller

random thoughts on a cloudy day

it rained all night and most of the morning. a light drizzle for the most part. a good soaking for the crops.

as i drove into town to get the mail, i thought about how i somehow still get a rush when i get published. same rush at 36 that i got at 19. i guess i really am doing what i was meant to be doing. though, i suppose the money comes after i die.

check out my new poem "the promised land" in the June issue of Underground Voices. check out the previous post for links.

i'll soon be off to the thriving hillbilly metropolis of Richmond, Indiana to do some shopping. and no, not for fireworks and liquor like most of the people from Ohio crossing the border. though, that's not a bad idea. all i'm really hoping for is a poem or two.

wanted to start the month off proper and i think i did just that. today's musical selections:

Butch Walker & The Black Widows - The Spade
The Black Keys - El Camino
Barenaked Ladies - Rock Spectacle
Outkast - Stankonia

"Ambition is so powerful a passion in the human breast, that however high we reach we are never satisfied."  - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
