happy 4th of July

i hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th of July.

the fuckers around here have shot off so many damn fireworks the last couple of nights, i have no clue how the fuck they would have any left for tonight.

the Yankees lost yesterday to the Mets, 8-3. they play a doubleheader today. if the Yankees lose both games they should be happy that George Steinbrenner is dead. if he was still the owner, there would be heads on stakes at Yankee Stadium after this shit.

here are your highlights from the NBA playoffs last night:

so, the NBA Finals are set. Milwaukee vs. Phoenix.

at the Euro 2020 yesterday, Denmark defeated Czech Republic, 2-1. England whipped Ukraine, 4-0. the semifinals are now set. Italy plays Spain on July 6th and England will play Denmark on July 7th.

at the Copa America yesterday, Colombia defeated Uruguay on penalty kicks, 0-0 (4-2) and Argentina defeated Ecuador, 3-0. the semifinals at the Copa America will be Brazil vs. Peru on July 5th and Colombia vs. Argentina on July 6th.

i did watch the Columbus Crew vs. New England Revolution game yesterday. it finished 2-2. i wanted to see what the new stadium looks like in Columbus. it does look amazing, at least on television.

ROH was really good last night.

enjoy some music:

and now some of this and that:

on the DVR tonight will be The One And Only Dick Gregory.

i will be watching the hot dog eating contest like i do every 4th of July.

i'm sure i will watch some fireworks tonight and hopefully won't be pissed off at two Yankees losses.

i will probably watch some NASCAR today, especially if i need a good nap.

i did go out and water the tomatoes this morning. it is supposed to get up to 90 today, so i don't think we're going to be opening the windows.

i have no clue when i will be on here tomorrow.

i hope everyone had a great Saturday. i hope your Sunday will be even better.

until tomorrow kids...

independence, what is that again?...

i suppose i never fully bought in to the meaning of any holiday in this country as a child. the Fourth of July was always just fireworks, hot dogs, dysfunction and people bitching about politics over alcohol. i don't think it was ever about freedom once in my lifetime. i always think of the George Carlin line, freedom is the illusion of choice, or something like that. it's mainly a day to sit around, bitch about the heat, drink too much, and then laugh at the animals as the fireworks scare the shit out of them tonight. when i lived out on the farm i would usually have 2 or 3 cats come up missing after the 4th. the fireworks would chase them right into the waiting mouths of the coyotes. the cycle of life i suppose.

so today is basically a hot dog eating contest, some baseball, and then catching up on some sleep. i do plan on doing some poetry work today. i have a few new places in mind to send to. that will let me know if what i'm writing now is actually any good or not.

i did write 1 poem last night. i tried to be a good boy and go to sleep at a decent hour. i spent the first 30 minutes tossing and turning because i had a line pop into my head. 2 1/2 hours later, i had a really, really good poem. i will hopefully find a potential home for that later today.

the New York Yankees won last night over Atlanta, 8-5. they will go for the series win this afternoon.

Deadliest Catch was really interesting last night. the whole episode was about the Bering Sea Triangle. fascinating shit.

Smackdown was really good last night.

205 Live was excellent last night.

enjoy some music:

and now some of this and that:

on the DVR tonight will be Big Brother and Lucha Underground. i'll watch NXT sometime tonight on WWE Network.

i imagine at some point tonight i'll probably watch some fireworks. our little town doesn't do any on the 4th. they do their fireworks when the community picnic happens, whenever the fuck that is. i've lived in this area since 1997 and i'm still plotting my exit.

not exactly sure when i'll be on here tomorrow. i know the guy that's measuring the windows will be here at noon. and i will probably have to go to the grocery store to pick up a new prescription for me. so, perhaps in the early evening hours. maybe in the morning if a wild hair gets up my ass.

i hope everyone has a safe and fun Fourth of July. comfort your pets and take it easy on the drinking in these hot ass temperatures. and then take it easy again.

who the fuck gets up early on a Saturday

it figures, i was hoping to sleep in today and of course, i was up before 7 in the morning. i think i got close to 5 hours of sleep. i guess that will have to do.

i realized i forgot to do my Flashback Friday yesterday. so, here are two links to some poems from my past. the first, one of many forays into love:
https://asphodelmadness.wordpress.com/2011/03/05/long-legs-and-a-shot-of-jack/
and the second being one of the best poems i have ever written. of course, i wrote it 20 years ago, which i either look at as i have had "it" since the beginning, or my life has been downhill ever since: http://www.myfavoritebullet.com/Campbell_Withdrawn.html

the New York Yankees got their asses handed to them last night, losing 10-1 to the Twins. just one of those nights where they could never get the big hit at the right time. they play again tonight.

NJPW was pretty good last night. i never pass up a chance to watch Nakamura take on Tanahashi. those two never fail to have a great match.

Treehouse Masters last night was really good. i guess the show is popular now as i have seen a few other treehouse shows on other channels. none of them are as good as Treehouse Masters though.

enjoy some music:

now, laugh motherfucker:

Manchester United takes on Barcelona today. i'm really interested to see how the boys stack up against another world class team. of course, i don't think Messi or Neymar are playing, so i'm taking everything that happens today with a grain of salt. but, i will drink if they win.

team USA takes on Panama for 3rd place in the Gold Cup today. as disappointing as playing in this game is, it would be even more disappointing to lose. i'm hoping the team comes out today trying to prove a fucking point.

i guess the fireworks at the community picnic will actually happen tonight. i might just venture outside and watch them, i believe i can do that from the backyard. of course, there's a chance of some thunderstorms to roll in when they are supposed to start. figures.

on the DVR tonight will be Power and ROH.

i'm not sure if i'm going to the store with mom or not. thankfully, the pills i called in last night are ready. that cuts out a second trip to the store.

that's all for me today. hope everyone has a great Saturday. enjoy some sun, some music, some drinks, and some of whatever money can buy.

be well. be creative. be cool. be quick to send me CASH, panties, hate mail, love letters, broken promises and dirty pennies from heaven.

nothing more annoying than fireworks going off at 3 in the morning

the one thing i knew i would hate about moving away from the farm would be being so fucking close to other people. yesterday was the perfect example. July 4th on the farm was really, just another fucking day. July 4th in "town", it's a big to do. and when every other jackass is shooting off fireworks, it gets a little fucking annoying after a few hours. i wrote a poem sort of about this while on the toilet this morning. i suppose i do my best thinking there. hopefully, i'll write a few more today, although i imagine mom is going to keep me busy.

and it looks like another day of sunshine here. so, there is a little part of me that would like to actually go out and enjoy it. i haven't had my summer ritual bad sunburn yet.

enjoy some music before i get to the events of yesterday:

i did watch all of the Copa America final yesterday. i was stunned that Argentina blew that chance to win at the death of regulation. and then a little more stunned when Chile beat them in penalty kicks, 4-1. hard to believe Messi can be so good with his club and then be virtually invisible at times with his country. congrats to Chile on their first ever Copa America title.

the New York Yankees scored early yesterday and were cruising. cruising to the point where i actually fell asleep. so, imagine my surprise when i woke up to a 2-2 score, right after Betances blew the save by giving up a 2 run homer. i cleared my eyes and settled in for the bottom of the 9th. Tex got a miracle double. Jose Pirela came in to pinch run for him. Chris Young couldn't get a bunt down but managed to work a walk anyway. that brought up Ramon Flores:
walk off wins in back to back days. i'll take it. they go for the sweep this afternoon.

the rest of the night was helping mom put up some stuff around the house, carry in boxes from the garage and watch some fireworks:

i did watch most of ROH last night (i finished it up this morning). a great main event between Red Dragon and Elgin vs. The Kingdom. and if you haven't seen Dalton Castle wrestle, i urge EVERYONE to do so.

another music break as i need to get some water:

after the Yankees game today, the USA women play Japan in the finals of the Women's World Cup. i can't believe the USA hasn't won the World Cup since 1999. hopefully that changes. after that is over, it will be time for the Sunday night shows. now, all of this will be on the DVR as i have no clue how long the soccer game will go. so, tonight i'll be watching Big Brother (mostly just to see the little details of what i already know), True Detective, Ballers and The Brink. closing out the night will be the season finale of Penny Dreadful. i saw this morning that the show will be coming back in 2016 for season 3. that made me very, VERY happy. hopefully the season finale is a great one.

i imagine if i still have any energy left, i will be doing some typing late tonight. i'm hoping the words keep on flowing after that poem i wrote this morning. it has the makings of a really good one.

that is all for me today. i hope everyone had a safe and wonderful 4th of July. enjoy the rest of the weekend.

be careful, you'll blow off your hand...

i've never been much of a fireworks guy. once i entered my teens, anytime the fireworks started, it was the time to go sneak off and do drugs, drink, or make out. i suppose the 38 year old pervert inside of me misses those days the most. not that there was a ton of making out going on. but the drugs, man the drugs...

holy shit, the Yankees won last night, 7-4. Tanaka was not at his best but the offense woke up for a night. they called up a kid from the minors (well, not really a kid, spent 8 years down there) who homered in his second at bat. Beltran hit a huge 3 run homer. and thankfully, Phil Hughes went back to being the same shitty Phil Hughes that used to pitch for the Yankees. they play again this afternoon. maybe they will remember what a winning streak is.

i am looking forward to the World Cup games today. Germany plays France and Brazil takes on Colombia. i have Germany and Brazil advancing, even though i would not be shocked if that doesn't happen. i expect two really good games today.

i don't really have anything planned for tonight, so i imagine i'll find something on tv to watch. and then maybe a creative outburst at some point.

Joey did get eliminated from Big Brother last night. might be one of the worst players EVER. the new HOH's are Amber and Devin. there goes my hope of Devin leaving the house this week. and i don't think the other pussies in his alliance have the guts to even figure out a way to back door him this week. not sure why people play the game this way. of course, i don't even bother to try out for the show, so i'm one to talk.

was kind of stunned when i got that poem published this morning. wasn't expecting that at all. i still find it amazing at how much the internet has changed the life of a poet. never when i started dreaming of getting published in my teens did i ever think it could possibly happen within a day.

i had some pizza last night for dinner. i think there was just enough of grease in it that i have flushed everything but my soul down the toilet this morning. try shaking that visual out of your head today.

hope everyone has a great holiday. for everyone else outside of this country, hope you enjoy the World Cup games.

be well. be creative. be safe. be worried about that extra hot dog.

peace and chicken, ribs, brisket, turkey, hot dog, sausage and pork chop grease...

random thoughts on a cloudy day

it rained all night and most of the morning. a light drizzle for the most part. a good soaking for the crops.

as i drove into town to get the mail, i thought about how i somehow still get a rush when i get published. same rush at 36 that i got at 19. i guess i really am doing what i was meant to be doing. though, i suppose the money comes after i die.

check out my new poem "the promised land" in the June issue of Underground Voices. check out the previous post for links.

i'll soon be off to the thriving hillbilly metropolis of Richmond, Indiana to do some shopping. and no, not for fireworks and liquor like most of the people from Ohio crossing the border. though, that's not a bad idea. all i'm really hoping for is a poem or two.

wanted to start the month off proper and i think i did just that. today's musical selections:

Butch Walker & The Black Widows - The Spade
The Black Keys - El Camino
Barenaked Ladies - Rock Spectacle
Outkast - Stankonia
