there's an old Buddy Guy song named "Done Got Old" and i certainly thought of that at 4 this morning. i was trimming my toenails and as i was starting on the little toe on my right foot, as soon as i went to cut the whole damn nail fell off. it took a bit to get the bleeding to stop and get some Neosporin on it. fuck me, 48 going on 84.
the USMNT lost to Uruguay last night, 1-0. honestly, i still think the goal was offside, but it doesn't matter. this was a game the USA needed to win and they simply didn't. which doesn't surprise me as, other than Mexico, they haven't been able to bet a good team under Gregg Berhalter. last night, they failed to make it out of the group at Copa America, in a group that has Panama and Bolivia. completely unacceptable. sad thing is, i'm not sure if U.S. Soccer has the balls to admit they made a mistake by bringing him back and firing him immediately. now, i can't believe they had an inexperienced referee do that game last night. to top that off, they refused to shake hands with Christian Pulisic after the game. talk about fucking classless. i do believe the team has plenty of talent. but it has been so many damn years since they have had the right coach to bring it out of them. if they decide to just keep going the way they are going, they will get destroyed in 2 years in the World Cup. on home soil nonetheless. fuck me.
so, i did watch some of the Euro 2024 games yesterday. France beat Belgium, 1-0. Portugal won on penalty kicks (3-0) against Slovenia. today, Romania plays Netherlands and Austria takes on Turkey.
in the Copa America tonight, Costa Rica takes on Paraguay and Colombia plays Brazil.
Name That Tune was pretty good last night.
Monday Night Raw was excellent last night.

here are your two videos for this day of National Poetry Month:
the NBA playoffs started off yesterday and were really good. i'm so happy that Sacramento is back in the playoffs for the first time in 17 years. and i was really happy the New York Knicks won at Cleveland last night, 101-97. the game between Sacramento and Golden State was a fucking classic. the Kings won 126-123. here are some highlights from yesterday:
the New York Yankees won yesterday against the Twins, 6-1. hopefully, they will win today to get a split in the series.
i did catch some of the MLS highlights from last night:

i will probably watch some baseball and NBA playoff basketball today.
Manchester United is now up 2-0.
i will probably be on here tomorrow after a trip to the bank.

so, i did go to Rite Aid this morning. they had my prescription ready. thankfully, they weren't busy either. i took mom to her appointment to get her bloodwork done. thankfully, that went quick as well. after that, mom wanted to go to Lowe's. now, she doesn't have her glasses yet, so this is basically me taking a blind person to shop. we did find everything we needed at Lowe's. thankfully, i had a gift card on me as well. that took a good $50 off of the bill. i took mom back home and then i went to Big Lots. i had two coupons to use. amazingly, they did have some baseball cards in stock. i got 4 packs of baseball cards and 1 pack of hockey cards. mom had me look for some cheap tablecloths for her to use while working with the plants. i found 2 of them and after my coupons, i got all that for $27. the cards made up for that amount.
so, i missed the USWNT match today against England. i heard the USA lost 2-1, although the second goal the USA scored was taken away by a ridiculous VAR call. but, it was a friendly... i think England is one of the better teams out there on the women's side.
Vice News Tonight had two great episodes this week.
NJPW was really good last night.
Little Demon was hilarious last night.
Atlanta was fucking great last night.
Young Sheldon was pretty funny last night.

most of the time, i am a pretty laid back kind of guy. but, i do have moments where it doesn't take much to really set me off. and i come from a long line of assholes with legendary tempers. so, you can imagine how i was today at Rite Aid. i was told by a guy working at the pharmacy that my other prescription i called in on Monday would be ready today. i got there, for the third straight day, and the same fucking guy tells me the pills will be ready tomorrow. i mention to him that he himself told me they would be ready today. he seemed surprised that either he made the mistake or someone in this town has a memory longer than a fucking goldfish. so, i guess i get to there for the 4th straight fucking day tomorrow. fuck me.
the Yankees were trailing last night going into the bottom of the 9th, 6-3. they hadn't had a hit against the Astros since the first fucking inning. so, when Aaron Hicks, of all people, hit a game tying 3 run homer, i screamed HOLY SHIT. eventually, Aaron Judge would get the game winning hit as the Yankees defeated Houston, 7-6. that was one of those victories that truly makes me believe this season is going to be a special one. and thankfully, Aaron Judge and the team avoided arbitration today and settled on a contract for this season.
NXT UK was very good last night.

i woke up this morning after another shitty 5 hours of sleep dreaming about my high school crush. my imagination is going through this phase of playing the greatest hits again. i don't try to intervene, just sit back and see where the show goes. kind of like insanity in a way, hoping something different happens at the end. welcome to 2020.
today has been one of those days where i haven't bothered to fucking do much. mom has been bitching at the television all day long. i get the feeling if the asshole gets reelected, she's going to die screaming at the news. i'm not sure why she bothers anymore. it's all bullshit.
NXT UK was pretty good last night.
the season finale of Shelter in Place with Shane Smith was excellent last night.

i have no clue what we're doing for dinner tonight. might be some fish. might be some ribs. i try to be a decent son and let mom pick what she wants. she's usually passive aggressive about everything these days. all that means is the asshole in me gets to come out more. joy.

so the world is going to hell and now the weather is following right along with it. if it really does snow here in the next day or so, i'm going to do my best to start the plans back up to move south. and by south, i mean closer to the equator.
apparently people around here have gone from hoarding toilet paper to now hoarding Lysol and Clorox wipes. my trip to Meijer wasn't that productive. i did find a few things mom needed and i got some cheap baseball cards (only 1 decent hit out of 3 packs), but more or less it was a waste of time.
it's one of those days i feel the depression closing in and i have literally no desire to try to write my way out of it. it's as though my inner child wants to feel the pain again. joy.

we had shrimp with cheesy grits last night for dinner. mom thought it was too spicy for her. i thought it was fine. i'm trying to sneak in some flavor every now and then, mostly just to keep my tastebuds alive.
i think mom is making lasagna tonight. i love how she forgets about Italian food and diabetics. i don't mind, as i'm not looking to live forever. but i know my blood sugar will be sky high in the morning.
i'm not sure when i will be on here tomorrow. it will be probably after the rain is over, hopefully. i know one thing, i'm not going anywhere tomorrow.

i believe it's supposed to get into the 90's here for the next few days. we had a little rain yesterday, but we're clearly in a fucking drought. our tree in the front is losing leaves before they even change color. joy.
the New York Yankees lost yesterday to the Rangers, 6-1. they won't play again until Friday when they play the Twins back in the Bronx. hopefully, the Yankees have a nice long run in them for the playoffs this season.
the New Orleans Saints defeated Dallas last night, 12-10. the defense was amazing last night. i still don't believe they have won these last two games without Drew Brees. they play Tampa Bay this coming Sunday.
Succession was great last night.
Ballers was good last night.
The Righteous Gemstones was pretty funny last night.
Last Week Tonight was hilarious as usual.

i might watch some of the Monday night game tonight between the Bengals and Steelers.
so, when the pain in my right side started again at 4 in the morning, i think i figured out what the fuck is going on. the lipoma in my abdomen rests on some nerves when i sit too long. as a writer, this is like a kick in the nuts. the only thing that works for me right now is placing ice on my spine and laying flat in my massage chair. eventually, i will probably have to have the lipoma removed. joy.
the New York Yankees whipped Baltimore last night, 11-4. hopefully, they will do it again tonight.
here are your highlights from the NHL playoffs last night:
here are your highlights from the NBA playoffs last night:
The Voice did crown the right person last night.

it's supposed to rain sometime tonight. so not only do i have the lipoma situation, my arthritis is fucking killing me as well.
good times.
i have no clue when i will be on here tomorrow. if i actually get some decent sleep tonight, i'll try to be on here before the Yankees play in the afternoon.
i think i have coughed more in the last 24 hours than i have in most of my 42 years on this fucking planet. i'm hoping that's rock bottom and the only way to go from here is up. i went and got the pills my doctor said i could use and wouldn't affect my liver at all. i had to go get them or my mother was going to sneak out and get them from me. so, that's why this blog started 30 minutes later than i wanted to today. the asshole son had to tell his mother it's okay to allow the asshole to be an adult. good times.
i might have got a little over 4 hours of sleep last night. considering that's about what i get when i'm healthy, that's a good sign. i would love if i could actually sleep in a bed again before the weekend rolls around.
and i'm so fucking behind on getting the poems out there... if i'm better by the weekend, i know what i'll be doing.
the New York Yankees won last night, 3-2 over Boston. the Yankees are now tied for first place in the division. that also means they are tied for the best record in baseball. the last time the Yankees won 16 out of 17 games was in 1953. they play again tonight.
i was not happy with one of the people that got sent home last night on The Voice. Christiana absolutely should have been saved last night.
Smackdown was really good last night. imagine that, a wrestling show that actually shows mostly wrestling. concept.
205 Live was excellent last night.
Deadliest Catch was really good last night.
The Jim Jefferies Show was hilarious last night.
The Chris Gethard Show was fucking bizarre last night. it also reminded me why i miss smoking weed so much.

so the wind has been blowing like it's the end of the world for most of the day so far. a massive cold front is supposed to come through tonight with the usual thunder, hail, possible tornadoes, you know, usual February shit. after it goes through, the temperatures will go from the 70's to the 30's. good times.
baseball is back. the New York Yankees won today over Philadelphia 9-4 in spring training. hopefully the Yankees will be better this season. and hopefully they stick with the youth movement.
my order from Amazon.com came today. thankfully the mailman didn't try to stuff it in the mailbox.
the New York Rangers won last night 2-1 over Toronto in a shootout. it was yet another come from behind road win for the boys. it truly was the battle of Swedish goalies last night. thankfully, The King came out on top. the Rangers play tomorrow at New Jersey.
The Big Bang Theory was pretty good last night.
Life in Pieces was pretty good as well.
Baskets was fucking hilarious last night.

i did write 5 poems this morning. i typed them up earlier and i think a couple of them are really good. i will probably do another round of submissions before the month is over. i have a couple places in mind to send to.

now on to my evening. i'm sitting in my chair watching wrestling last night and the phone rings. mom answers it and has a conversation. i think nothing of it. ten minutes later mom comes in the room and tells me that was my dad's sister. apparently, my father is in the VA Hospice with dementia and has stopped eating and in one of his lucid moments, asked to see his kids before he dies. that certainly caught me off guard. now i'm going to tell the rest of this out of sequence as i have some fucking venting to do. so, this morning my sister and i talk and decide that we should go see him. Thursday works best for her so i said fine. my sister called my dad's sister back and found out some more info. apparently he was in a nursing home but that got too expensive so they moved him to the VA. he's been there for THREE WEEKS. why the fuck we're just now getting called about this really pisses me off. but what should i expect from a person who hasn't been a part of my life for 20 years. so i call the VA to see what room he is in. they can't tell me because i'm not listed anywhere in any of his paperwork. but, they can't stop me from seeing him as long as i can prove that i'm his son. that was the last fucking straw i have in my back. i called my sister back and told her that i wasn't going to see him. i'll see the fucker when they put him in the dirt. later on in the day, my mother tries to talk me into seeing him, going with the angle that i might regret this later on. i asked her how many fucking wishes of mine did dad grant? and i'm supposed to grant his final one. the same fuck that nearly choked me to death at 13. that tried to have me put in jail at 17 when he blamed his hit and run accident on me. the same fuck that has held it against me my entire life that he had to wait a fucking year to write me off on the taxes because i was born a month later than i was supposed to be. i will gladly go to the funeral and i will even help put dirt on the fucking casket. i'm fucking done with letting that piece of fucking shit ruin my fucking life. now, i figure my sister will try her best to talk me into going since she'll be in town for a funeral on Thursday. as of right now, there is no chance in hell of it happening. as i told my mother, i've waited over 30 fucking years for that man to die. my patience is nowhere near running out. all i want is for the casket to be open so i can actually make sure that piece of shit is in it.
part two of the mind fuck was when i got those poems published at Bold Monkey. one of the poems, "the pain of not being good enough", just happens to be my actual suicide note i wrote a few weeks back. that poem has one of the coldest fucking endings i have ever written. i have no doubts that if i would have had a gun near me after writing that, i would have put a bullet right between my eyes. each time i read it it takes me back to that very dark place. a friend was worried that this move was going to be the death of me. i can't let her know just how fucking close she is to being right.
needless to say, i haven't slept well.
Gotham was great last night. i'm so happy that show is back.
The Voice actually had two performances that made me hop on iTunes and actually spend some money:
i'm very interested to see who makes it to the next round tonight.
Monday Night Raw was pretty good last night. one match especially was fucking great:
on the DVR tonight, especially since mom is going to miss some of the shows since she's at work, will be The Voice, Undateable and Deadliest Catch. those three shows certainly scream sophisticated white trash to me.
that's all for today. hopefully your family is less dysfunctional than mine.

i took a nap this afternoon that was completely unexpected. i feel like old age has finally decided i am on the back half of the circle. and this was after a rare decent night of sleep.
had my truck towed to this local mechanic today. never used him before, but it's maybe 15 miles closer than the place i normally take it to. hopefully, i'll know by tomorrow what is wrong with it. mom and i came to the conclusion today if it costs more than $500 to fix it, we're going to junk it. so, part of me hopes it won't be that much to fix.
the tow truck driver was this old dude that talked like he had about a billion marbles in his mouth. that was fun trying to figure out what the fuck he was saying. at least he knew where to take it to.
Manchester United scored 3 goals in the second half last night to defeat Liverpool 3-1. that was a nice way to finish up the tour.
Monday Night Raw was pretty good last night. i didn't like when they ended it with the contract signing...the match before that would have been a better closer. just my opinion, i've only watched longer than most of the performers have been alive.
the Yankees got just enough runs and some great pitching last night to beat Detroit 2-1. they face yet another former cy young winner tonight. after they face another tomorrow, they will be the first team ever to do that. hopefully the winning can continue tonight.
other than that tonight, i'll be watching Deadliest Catch and Tyrant. looking forward to both of those.
i didn't get anything done i wanted to today. besides the nap, got some news i didn't want to get today.
i heard back from Brian at Zygote in My Coffee on my poetry submission from back in June. he has announced that Zygote is closing down. the site will remain up, as will the archives. it is also the end of Tainted Coffee Press as well. a BIG thank you to Brian for publishing me for over a decade. i truly appreciate it. my best to him and his family.
so, i now have a stack of poems to send out here soon. my apologies to a few of you editors out there before the emails start flying.
it feels like it is going to rain. at least, that's what my back is saying.
lord knows how late i'm going to be up tonight. this feels like one of those days where i pick up some paint brushes and just go nuts until i run out of steam. if that happens, i'll be sure to take some pictures of it.
that's all for today. hope this finds everyone well.

where i actually sleep for more than 2 hours at a time. where i live in a climate that doesn't get below 30 degrees. where i have a lovely woman by my side that actually loves the fact that i'm a poet and a dreamer. where my sports teams win more than not and my liver can easily handle any alcohol ever made.
i have a dream.
when i was a child, i enjoyed this day for the day off of school and my grandmother's birthday. since she died in 1993 and i haven't been in school since 1994, this day is more about MLK and it's the day before my birthday.
hopefully i'll be getting my truck back tomorrow. and hopefully it will be above zero degrees when i get it.
the deep freeze is coming back from the way it looks on all the weather forecasts. thankfully, the propane tank got filled today. and we got plenty of cat food over the weekend. so, knock on wood, we are prepared for it.
i got half of the Super Bowl correct. picked Denver but missed the Seattle game. hopefully the big game will be played in a blizzard.
i really enjoyed the Sunday night shows last night. True Detective and Shameless won the night for me. the other 3, Girls, House of Lies, and Episodes were their normal train wrecks. but i'm the asshole blocking traffic and watching.
the other good thing about this holiday is the afternoon professional sports. been watching some hockey and basketball while hoping to fall asleep this afternoon. i think i got 20 minutes or so watching some soccer in England.
i am looking forward to Monday Night Raw tonight. i was hoping in my birthday gifts over the weekend there was going to be tickets to it, but oh well. it's about 30 minutes away from me. i can understand my mother and sister not wanting to enable my love of pro wrestling. should be a great show tonight.
the New York Rangers continued their hot streak with a 4-1 beat down of Washington last night. they are now in second place in the division. and on my birthday, they play the fucking Islanders. needless to say, i will be in full throat for that one.
also, that Rangers victory helped give me my second straight 10-0 week in fantasy hockey. i believe i have a 22 1/2 game lead in my division. this is starting to look like my best season ever. and given the amount of injuries i've had, i'm a little surprised to say the least.
other than Raw tonight, i will be going through some poems trying to find 11 that i will be sending out tomorrow. i think i have a good number in mind, just not sure if it's 11 or not. if not, i guess i'll be doing some writing at 2 in the morning. lord knows i won't be asleep anyway.
hope everyone had a great weekend. hope it is warmer wherever you are. and why haven't you invited me to visit? be well. peace and chicken grease.
