so i got up this morning and for some reason, took 3 mighty shits in 45 minutes. not sure what the fuck caused that, so i took some Imodium so i wouldn't have to deal with that for the rest of the day. knock on wood, so far so good.
then, listened to mom bitch out some asshole at this rental company who flat out lied about when the lift we needed out here would arrive. it showed up 2 hours later than we were told. i'm encouraging her to not pay that portion of the bill.
after a little breakfast and getting the animals fed, i settled in for Manchester United. so, of course they would fall behind early. when RvP tied it before half, i decided i wasn't going to take my shower just yet. when they fell behind 90 seconds later, off to the shower i went. so i missed the first 8 minutes or so of the second half. which, quite honestly, i didn't miss anything. thankfully, Rooney ties the game again later and then Chicharito saves the day with another header to win the game. 3-2 in a when the fuck is the real Manchester United going to show up kind of game. but i'll gladly take the 3 points and the victory beer.
after that, off to the University of Dayton Arena to watch some college basketball. Dayton was playing Ryerson, a team from Canada. i was hoping for a blowout and that was what i got. Dayton won 89-62. for the first game of the season, i thought Dayton did pretty well. one thing i know for sure, this team is going to be much deeper than last year. next game is in a week.
after that, a trip to the sports bar where my cousin works. then, back home.
so, after getting through the 40 emails i had, i'm writing this, while sort of listening to the New York Rangers game on the television in the background. i don't have really high hopes for this evening. i'd love to see them win, but that would be a little too much to ask for.
after the first period or so, i will flip to the Ohio State game. they play Penn St. this evening. hopefully they can extend their winning streak. at best, give me a reason to not flip back to the Rangers game.
Saturday Night Live is new this evening. i will be watching that as Edward Norton is one of my favorite actors of all time. and i do believe ROH is on as well. so, sometime around 2 or so, i will be passing out. after a few victory beers.
hope everyone is having a great start to their weekend. big fantasy football day tomorrow. i have a few injuries i have to keep an eye out for early. so, it will be a morning of checking injury reports. sleep will be required.
until late tomorrow, after the Sunday night shows. unless something tonight pisses me off to the point i just have to bitch about it in the morning.

a much happier day (so far)
i kind of got back into my ritual of when Manchester United plays a game mid-week. a big breakfast, plenty of music, some mindless internet surfing and then settle down for the game. i thought the team Moyes put out was better than the debacle over the weekend. still would like to see a stronger midfield, but sadly, this team doesn't have those players. Chicharito scores in the second half for the 1-0 win over Liverpool in Capital One Cup play. i will enjoy that victory beer for sure.
the Yankees last night played about as listless as i have seen them all season. so, with their season hanging in the balance, the ball goes to Phil Hughes. that pretty much sums up this season perfectly. any Yankee loss or Cleveland win for the rest of the season and the Yankees are eliminated from playoff contention. hopefully they put this miserable season to bed this evening.
The Voice last night was really good. i heard a couple voices that i think really have a chance to win it all. from what i have seen so far, looks like it will be another great season for the show.
i laughed my ass off last night watching Jimmy Fallon. here is why:
no new Duck Dynasty tonight so i get to watch The Bridge at the normal time. i'm really looking forward to this episode tonight. judging from the preview, it should be a good one.
i didn't get all the guys i wanted in fantasy football. so i'm going to have to do some scrambling here before rosters need to be set by tomorrow.
i'm hoping to do some writing tonight. i want to have a few new poems to choose from to send out some submissions early in October.
that's pretty much all for now. hope this finds everyone in a relaxed position, a cold one in your hand, and the deviant of your choice asking for more.

Jeff Buckley - Mystery White Boy: Live '95-'96

better than i expected
i woke up at 6 this morning, expecting the worse. when i went to sleep, they figured the storms would be getting here right around 6. i guess my body clock has an alarm set for disaster. amazingly, the storms, just like everything else that enters this state, pretty much died out when it got to the state line. just a steady rain so far this morning. good for the crops. much better than the inch of rain we got in a little over 10 minutes yesterday. my only fear is once this rain passes, we are expected to have a lull. during that lull it is supposed to get very hot and muggy. that's not good. as long as what fires up this afternoon is nothing like the end of world shit they got yesterday in Oklahoma... when the guy from the Weather Channel said he saw his life pass in front of his eyes, as much as it was fascinating television, it was spooky as all fuck. the knot in my stomach has died down a bit. i've still got all my shit together, just in case...
a big thank you to the muse for some good words last night. it is an absolute pleasure to have you back in my life.
the Yankees got some great pitching last night from CC (first win in over a month, 10 K's no BB) and just enough offense to win 4-1. a much needed victory to put the world back on its axis. not sure how much of tonight's game i'll watch (i'm assuming it's going to be a black-out here) but i would love to see them start winning again. just a game out of first.
i believe later this morning i'll be going with my mother up to Columbus to drop some stuff off to my sister. hopefully we can get there and back during the lull.
and if the storms don't knock out the power or the DIRECTV, i'll be bouncing between playoff hockey and playoff basketball this evening. i'm hoping for some entertaining games to take my mind off of everything for at least a few hours.
i did watch Chicharito score 2 goals last night for Mexico. that was about the only thing that took my attention away from the Yankees and the Weather Channel.

weekend musings
so i started off this weekend wondering has it really been 19 years since Charles Bukowski died? fuck, i feel old.
after watching the New York Rangers lose Friday night to Ottawa (who are somehow 12-1-1 in their last 14 games at MSG) i didn't have a very good feeling for the weekend.
i listened to the Dayton Flyers lose another heart breaker on the road and eventually back their way into the A10 tournament. i have never seen a team be so snake-bitten in my life. 0-7 in games decided by 3 points or less. and oh joy, on Thursday they get to play Butler. i will be shocked if they advance.
Saturday Night Live was excellent. of course, if you bring back almost 10 people or so, i guess it should be. i really enjoyed ROH on Saturday Night. i love how they are setting up this SCUM angle. although, it smells like a Kevin Steen face turn. i'm interested to see if they go that way. i have no doubts that Kevin is versatile enough to pull it off, just not sure if the fans will buy it or not.
so, after getting some trash picked up, cats fed, a little breakfast with my sister and mother, i sat down to watch Manchester United. a great first half that saw beautiful goals from Chicharito and Wayne Rooney. and then, a second half where they allowed Chelsea to control just about all 45 minutes and eventually tie the game. just fucking great. so, they now have to play Chelsea on the road in a few days. for some reason, the collapse of last season is suddenly creeping back into my head.
thankfully, as United was frustrating the living shit out of me, i could flip over and see the New York Rangers destroy the Washington Capitals. a nice 4-1 win that was really a matter of fact dominating victory. i didn't see the first 10 minutes that everyone said Washington was controlling the game, so technically i don't think it happened. another 5-5 week in fantasy hockey. at least no major injuries to deal with this week.
throw in a little golf, a little NASCAR, a little World Baseball Classic, MLS and another Miami Heat win and you can see i had a full sports pallet this weekend. not that i enjoyed much of it. i sometimes amaze myself at how much i hate losing.
really enjoyed the Sunday night shows. "Girls" really made me laugh. i enjoy this hipster generation and how i just couldn't care to understand it.
a late night dishes session, all done while listening to a little public radio and the rain starting to fall. and seeing how i can barely stand for more than 15 minutes at a time when my back is barking, the 30 minutes to do the dishes was just fucking lovely.
this fucking time change completely surprised me. not that losing a hour of sleep is a big deal to me. just seems to have thrown off my flow for some reason. of course, it could have been the temps near 65 degrees over the weekend. what the fuck is normal anymore?

a recap of the weekend
first off, the huge game the Dayton Flyers had on Saturday against Xavier. former Flyer and NBA rookie Chris Johnson made a surprise appearance before the game and got the crowd going. the students were in ape shit mode and loud from 30 minutes before the game started. and thankfully, the players decided they wanted to play like they actually had some balls. they only trailed once in the game and won it pretty easy by 11. always nice to start off the weekend that way.
next, off to meet my sister at the favorite sports bar. we had the same waitress we had the week before, someone i find incredibly attractive. (i've already written one poem about her) so, it figures i would be with my mother and sister. a good time, especially listening to my sister whine about having to pay taxes. god forbid someone with a six figure salary has to pay a little back.
didn't watch much of the NBA All-Star Saturday night as most of that shit doesn't interest me anymore. i watched the Beyonce documentary instead and my sister was shocked that i never changed the channel. i told her i was tempted when Beyonce was talking about her miscarriage but decided against it. i'd like to think i've matured a little in 37 years.
Sunday was hockey day in America. so, after getting the cats fed and the trash picked up, it was time for a nice triple-header of hockey. the night ended with the third game being the New York Rangers vs. Washington. a nice rematch from last year's playoffs. and holy shit, when a power play goal leads to a 2-1 win for the Rangers, i'm beyond ecstatic. that was a nice victory beer.
i didn't watch much of the NBA All-Star game at all. i decided i was much more interested in my Sunday night shows. and judging from the highlights i watched this morning, i think i made the right call.
today was about Manchester United in FA Cup action. a nice 2-1 win over Reading. the good Nani showed up today as did Chicharito. now there's about a 99.9% chance their next game in the FA Cup will be against Chelsea (hopefully not). but, that game will be at home and i like their chances against just about any team in the world at home.
on the poetry front, i finally heard back from killpoet.com on my poetry submission from April 2012. they have decided to pass.
i've got a shitload of poems to go through and maybe i will find some poems to send out either this week or next.
on the fantasy hockey front, i squeaked out a narrow victory last week but am now 3 games out of first in the division. i play the first place team this week. so, this morning i picked up one of my old favorites, Mike Richards. hopefully his little hot streak from Sunday will keep going for me this week. i'm going to need it.
on the fantasy Nascar front, somewhere i do believe Danica Patrick winning the pole for the Daytona 500 is surely one of the signs of the apocalypse.
crazy weather ahead this week, so i imagine plenty of back pain as well. plus, mom gets the results from her tests tomorrow. needless to say, i'm not expecting to sleep well tonight.
and it won't have anything to due with an underwhelming Monday Night Raw i'm expecting tonight.
hope this finds everyone well. hopefully, i will have some good news to report sometime this week. hopefully.

winter as i used to remember her
first off, this blog post is brought to you by The Sam Roberts Show Online. episode 39 is highly recommended. you can find it on iTunes, Stitcher, and by going here: http://notsam.com/podcast.html.
it's been an interesting 2013 so far. managed to stay up to see the ball drop but with no mumbling Dick Clark to laugh at, it just wasn't the same.
woke up in the morning to see Manchester United win easy over Wigan. 2 from RvP and 2 from the Mexican god Chicharito. 2 clean sheets in a row. i'm fucking amazed i just typed that. keep it up boys.
manged to pick all 6 bowl games correctly on New Year's Day. which, thankfully, included a Michigan loss. that never gets old.
the weather has taken a turn to holy shit, this is what winter used to be like. 9 damn degrees this morning. i don't mind it, just hate walking on ice. not fun when you have back problems.
woke up early this morning to watch team USA destroy the Czech Republic 7-0 at the World Juniors. next up is Canada. semi-finals. winner goes to the gold medal game. another 4 am start time. suppose, i'll be bleary eyed once again.
thankfully, the Dan Patrick Show is back. that helps me greatly in the morning. also, allows me to put off feeding the cats and birds until it gets a little warmer outside. you know, like 13 degrees.
had a doctor visit today. given my family history of diabetes and thyroid problems and my history with blood clots, i'll be going to get my blood drawn in a few days i guess. i'm not really worried about what they find. i'm betting on nothing, just like 4 years ago.
if you happen to notice on the right hand side of this blog, i've added some links to Nerdist and WTF. hope you enjoy.

the day after the storm
we got around 9 to 10 inches of snow here yesterday. that was more than we got for the entire last winter. as the snow was falling yesterday, i had the pleasure/torture of watching Manchester United. never having the lead until the Mexican god Chicharito scores right on the 90th minute is not good for my heart i believe. a really entertaining 4-3 game, made all the better with Manchester City losing. lead is now 7 points. only bummer from yesterday, besides the usual shitty defense, was the injury news for Wayne Rooney. out at least 3 weeks with a knee injury. not good. hopefully more miracles are to come and Wazza comes back healthy and ready for the Champions League play.
shoveling this morning was not bad at all. to go with that 9+ inches yesterday was a 40 mph wind. the drifts happened to help me out partly. one sidewalk was basically clear. the other was a bitch to shovel, but not much ice at all to deal with. now, getting over to feed the cats was a bit more tricky. negotiating drifts of snow over a foot deep while still sleepy was a bit funny. saw all but one of the cats this morning. not sure if it's missing or was just hiding. not many of them have seen snow like that.
got done with all that to finally watch some meaningful hockey for the first time since the summer. team USA destroyed Germany in the World Juniors 8-0. was happy to see them play a great game, but the real test starts tomorrow. having to play Russia in Russia will be a huge step up. one piece of advice, stay out of the penalty box. if they get a point out of the game, i'll consider it a win. was also very nice to see Rangers draft pick JT Miller play well and score. hopefully he can keep that up.
my mother is sick so i'm doing my best to avoid that shit. so, i see myself spending the rest of the day in my room reading some books i got for Christmas.

what a lovely Saturday
a nice southern breeze taking the temps into the mid 60's. some sunshine and some college basketball. i couldn't ask for more.
went to UD Arena to see the Dayton Flyers open up the season for real. a sluggish game with plenty of hope. when your best player doesn't score in the first half and you are up by 7, i always think that means you have a team with great depth. and when that best player finishes the game with 12 points, 10 assists, and 6 rebounds and you know he played like shit for most of the game, you can smile. this team has plenty of good parts. but relying on freshmen the way they have to, this season will have plenty of warts as well. a win by 13 is a nice way to get the season going.
then, a little bite to eat and a trip to the grocery store. wasn't nearly as bad as i thought it would be. seeing that Ohio State is off this week, i kind of figured everyone would be at the store instead of in front of a television. it was packed but i managed it. when i'm calm i have a real fuck off look to me, so i'm usually left alone. makes it easier for my mother to get through the aisles, i know that much.
got home to see that Manchester United won 3-2. the usual, go down 2-0. enter the Mexican God, Chicharito, and just like that, 3-2. i learned a long time ago, this team has a will that can't be extinguished. no matter the players, the conditions, or the odds, drama is never far away. been a fan since the early 90's. they probably have taken a few years off my life, but it's been enjoyable.
then, enter chaos into college football as Alabama loses at home. down goes the number 1 team in the land. i smell a god conspiracy going on to make sure Notre Dame plays for the national championship. just sayin'.
and since the NHL can't decide if it wants to be relevant or not, this Saturday night will be spent with a beer, some more football, waiting for Saturday Night Live. i'd much rather be watching Canadians fighting, just sayin'.

by the way, as some of you may have noticed, not that any of you should really care, a part of my soul got robbed last night and i'm now on google+. the world has officially started to end. you're welcome.
went to UD Arena to see the Dayton Flyers open up the season for real. a sluggish game with plenty of hope. when your best player doesn't score in the first half and you are up by 7, i always think that means you have a team with great depth. and when that best player finishes the game with 12 points, 10 assists, and 6 rebounds and you know he played like shit for most of the game, you can smile. this team has plenty of good parts. but relying on freshmen the way they have to, this season will have plenty of warts as well. a win by 13 is a nice way to get the season going.
then, a little bite to eat and a trip to the grocery store. wasn't nearly as bad as i thought it would be. seeing that Ohio State is off this week, i kind of figured everyone would be at the store instead of in front of a television. it was packed but i managed it. when i'm calm i have a real fuck off look to me, so i'm usually left alone. makes it easier for my mother to get through the aisles, i know that much.
got home to see that Manchester United won 3-2. the usual, go down 2-0. enter the Mexican God, Chicharito, and just like that, 3-2. i learned a long time ago, this team has a will that can't be extinguished. no matter the players, the conditions, or the odds, drama is never far away. been a fan since the early 90's. they probably have taken a few years off my life, but it's been enjoyable.

what a strange last 2 days
first off, this blog post is brought to you by the Sam Roberts Show Online, episode 33. a must listen as Sam gives a first hand account of going through hurricane Sandy. you can find the show on Itunes, Stitcher, and at notsam.com. click on podcast, and help Sam out if you can.
secondly, a nice FUCK YOU to Frontier Communications as my phone and internet were out for 4 hours today. you couldn't have done that before the fucking election when the GOP was calling here 7 times a fucking day?
woke up yesterday to a coyote in the lane looking for food. on the other side of our wood lot there was a roll over accident. and as i was going to out to feed the cats a medical helicopter was taking off from the field next door. not your usual start to election day, but fitting i suppose.
i did have fun today driving into town to get the mail. all the yard signs of candidates that lost. i love it. living out here with all these rednecks in the sticks. the anger and disgust on their faces today was priceless.
i did watch the last few hours of election results. my mother was worried that Romney was going to win, knowing that meant the farm was going bye bye most likely. i did my best to calm her as i explained political math and how only 10 states really decide this shit. once Ohio was called she felt some relief and went to bed. i stayed up for another few hours laughing at all these assholes on tv explaining away how they had the numbers wrong, etc. etc. fucking beautiful.
but thank fucking god the election is over. living in a battleground state fucking sucks with the constant tv ads and robo calls. enough to drive normal people to a suicidal urge. personally, i enjoy the chaos. i learned a long time ago, don't bother picking up the phone. and, when all else fails, there's always porn to watch.
i did settle down to watch Manchester United this afternoon in Champions League play. just get a draw and you advance to the round of 16. when i saw the lineup Sir Alex put out, i knew this was going to be a fruitless struggle. but, after giving up the first goal. make a few substitutions, get a well timed power outage in the stadium, and get fucking Nani off the pitch and well, well, well, a 3-1 win. RvP, Rooney, and Chicharito. not pretty, the effort sucked ass, but the result was golden. all 3 goals came in the last 10 minutes of the game. and with the result the group has been won. with 2 games to spare. that victory beer will taste good at dinner tonight.
been getting the itch to do some writing or painting here soon. the weather has been like a fucking yo-yo here. decent amount of sun but cold. hopefully it warms up the next few days and a creative spark starts a fucking fire inside me.
of course, there's enough college football and basketball and fantasy football going on to keep my brain occupied. i just like to be using more than 10% of it at all times.
welcome to the world of constant failure.

what a weekend
went to see the Dayton Flyers play their first exhibition of the college basketball season. a nice win by 19 points. better than i expected, especially given all the recent distractions. one name to remember, Jalen Robinson. kid has all the making of the real deal.
got home from there in time to watch Ohio State play football at Penn State. a total shit show in the first half that filled me with dread. then, they finally let Braxton Miller take over and just like that, a relatively easy victory going away. never gets old seeing 100,000 assholes dressed in white sit quietly on the verge of tears. makes the victory beer that much sweeter.
started off Sunday filling out my fantasy football rosters, thinking i had a good chance on 2 of 3 of them. sure enough, looks like i will win 2 of the 3 regardless of what happens tonight. that out of the way, i could devote all my attention to Manchester United at Chelsea. when Man U went up 2-0 early, i was gleeful but nervous. early in the second half when Chelsea tied it up, i was near panic. but a good panic as this team usually loves drama much more than i care for. thanks to a deserved red card and then a gift red card, enter Chicharito and a lovely, albeit offside goal for the winner. do i really give a shit that Man U got nearly every call in the game? NO. do i care that it was the first Premier League win there in a decade? FUCK YES. the defense is total shit and has to improve. but, thank god for RvP. i get the feeling as long as he stays healthy he will be bailing this team out again and again. worth every fucking penny.
another night ahead with the need for the Elvis wall of televisions. The Voice, Monday Night Raw (i'm very interested in seeing where the CM Punk story line goes from here), Monday Night Football, and endless storm coverage. all if the power doesn't go out as we are getting a pretty consistent wind from the farthest reaches of hurricane Sandy. nothing like a day without any sun and a wind that makes it feel like it's 20 degrees outside. fun, so much fucking fun.
thoughts and prayers or whatever helps and works to all my friends on the east coast.

long live Chicharito
when i found out this morning i didn't win shit even though i picked all the NFL games correctly last week, i was a bit pissed. i missed the Sunday night score by 4 points (i had the Steelers score correct, and , as per usual, the Bengals let me down once again). being poor, only making money from doing surveys, the charity of my friends, and selling used shit and the occasional book, this was a bit of a letdown.
given that news, i sit down this afternoon to watch Manchester United in Champions League play. as usual, they give up a goal early. no biggie. 20 minutes in and they give up the next one. now, my usual bitter asshole tendencies come out. but only for 5 minutes, as Chicharito scores to cut it to 2-1. in the second half, Jonny Evans, who somehow has turned into a goal machine, ties the game at 2. then in the 75th minute (or somewhere around there) Cleverley pulls out one hell of a cross to Chicharito for the eventual game winner. winning this way never gets old. falling behind early certainly does. but, when you rest 2 of the usual 4 defenders, you run the risk of shit happening. HUGE game this Sunday with Chelsea. to say my attention will be not completely on the NFL this Sunday will be a gross understatement. lose at Chelsea and the league might as well be a lost cause. of course, i've thought this before and they have proved me wrong. but that was the days when they had great defenders. those days are sadly gone.
after The Voice tonight, i have no clue what i'll be watching. i'm sure i'll find something. probably music related. or history. or food. or college football with 2 teams i don't know. could be an early sleep night.
music today:
