the gambler's christmas day...

i always have thought of the first Sunday of the NFL season as the day all the gamblers start licking their lips and scheming how to make some money. being one of those degenerates now, i like think i have a good plan and i won't get too greedy. of course, if i win a couple hundred dollars today, all bets are off. hell, i don't bet enough to win a couple hundred dollars on any day. honestly, any day i win more than i bet is a good one. those days don't come around much.

Ohio State defeated Youngstown State yesterday, 35-7. i think the QB job should be settled now. and it was nice to see Marvin Harrison Jr. go off once again.

the USMNT defeated Uzbekistan yesterday 3-0. the 2 late goals make the score look way better than what it really was. this looked like what they have always looked like under Gregg Berhalter. just good enough to beat shit teams and never good enough to beat anyone good.

the Yankees lost to the Brewers yesterday, 9-2. they will try to avoid the sweep this afternoon. at least the Old Timer's Day events brought back some good memories.

i did watch plenty of college football yesterday.

here are your MLS highlights from last night:

AEW Collision was excellent last night.

hello frustration, my name is...

i thought i was doing pretty good today. i went to Rite Aid to get my prescriptions and noticed the parking lot was basically empty. i figured i wouldn't have to wait in line. oh, silly me. the pharmacy was closed. just fucking great. two prescriptions ready in there and ones i need as well. just fucking great. i went to the local grocery store just around the corner. i was so pissed, i forgot something mom wanted. of course, i remembered it right as i got into the Highlander. i got what was left on the grocery list at Kroger. mind you, it has been raining or drizzling all fucking day. my arthritis has had a good day, that's for sure. so, after i ate lunch, i called Rite Aid. no answer. so, my hunch was the pharmacy was now open and they were too fucking busy to answer the phones. luckily, it is only a 5 minute drive to it. i saw a car in the drive thru, so i knew the pharmacy was open. i got in line and waited. thankfully, both of mine were ready and no charge. i was behind two people in line. by the time i got done, there was about 12 people in line. i guess the problem is the CVS in town closed and the pharmacist that had worked at Rite Aid for years said fuck it one day and quit. it has been clusterfuck 101 since. so how was your day?

the New York Rangers lost last night to Colorado in the shootout, 3-2. the Rangers played better, but still not good enough. hopefully, that will change tonight at the fucking Islanders.

NXT was excellent last night.

The Voice was very good last night.

Deadliest Catch was good last night.

the Monday blues

i woke up this morning when the phone rang at 8:30 AM. i had been asleep for almost 4 hours. i put on my glasses and looked at the caller i.d. it was the Vietnam Vets. as i walked to the bathroom to take a piss, i muttered that it was times like these that you wish your father would have actually died in the war like he wanted to. welcome to my Monday morning.

the New York Rangers lost to Florida in a shootout last night, 3-2. more importantly, they lost Mika Zibanejad to a broken leg for the next 6 to 8 weeks. fuck, 2 losses in a row and now the bad luck comes back around. oh goody, they play Pittsburgh tonight. fuck me runnin'.

Survivor Series last night was way better than i thought it was going to be. all the matches were interesting and entertaining, a rarity for the WWE anymore. i was very pleased right up until the main event. when Goldberg beat Brock Lesnar in 84 seconds, i was shocked. and that thrilled me as i have been watching wrestling for more than 35 years. the fact that i was shocked means "they" did a good job. i'm very interested to see what happens tonight on Monday Night Raw.

Westworld was very good last night.

Divorce hit a little close to home last night. the debt talk reminded me so much of my father.

Insecure was close to perfect last night. i love shows that are comedies but remember to never sugarcoat the drama.

Shameless was excellent last night.

The Affair was compelling start to holy shit finish last night. i can't wait for another crazy fucking season.

enjoy some music:

and now some of this and that:

on the DVR tonight will be The Voice and Gotham. i'll be watching Monday Night Raw for most of the evening.

i would watch some of the Monday Night Football game but both of my fantasy teams shit the bed yesterday.

a ray of sunshine came through today when USA Soccer relieved Jurgen Klinsmann of his duties. i'm surprised they waited this long to do it. everything i'm hearing is that Bruce Arena will be the next coach. i'm hoping it's a temporary thing, unless of course he guides the team into the World Cup. i'd love to see someone younger get the job and really excite not only the players, but the nation. but the first job of whomever gets the position will be to fix what Jurgen broke. and that is the belief of the players that they are good enough to compete at this level. i know for a fact that Bruce Arena is good at that.

i've actually taken some time in the last 2 days to figure out a few ideas on what to get my mother and sister for Christmas. if any of you would like to be on my Christmas card/goodies list, be sure to send me your mailing addresses so i can add you to the list. my email is jcampb4593@aol.com.

and if you'd like to get me something for the holidays, the link to my Amazon.com wish list is on the right hand side of this blog.

i hope everyone had a great weekend.

sunshine and soon to be melting ice

i actually got some sleep last night. and it wasn't from drinking myself to sleep. i do have a victory beer waiting for me. i decided not to drink it last night. i would like to actually enjoy it.

i was drained after the basketball game last night. it wasn't the game that did it to me, it was more the pain in my left arm. it's this persistent fucking annoying pain that won't go away. i can take pills, i can rub on ointments, and i can still feel the fucker. now, it gets to the tricky part of all this. with my birthday coming up, with the NHL All-Star game coming up, more basketball games, etc., i want to just ride this pain until next month and then maybe i'll give up and see a doctor. but, as i sit here and struggle to type this up, i do know this is going to test all the pain tolerance i have. good times.

as for the basketball game last night, Dayton struggled again in the first half, trailing at halftime by 2. whatever their coach said at halftime truly worked. they beat LaSalle at every aspect of the game, rebounding, defense, fast break points, etc. it was a pleasure to see. Dayton's point guard erupted in the second half and scored all 16 of his points in the final 20 minutes. i'm hoping the injury scare last night with Dayton's lone senior is nothing major. they can't stand to lose anymore players. Dayton won 61-50. they next play St. Louis at home on Saturday.

we made it back home in time to catch American Horror Story and Lucha Underground.

American Horror Story was excellent. the show had a few more deaths and a few more twists and turns as well. i really have enjoyed what Neil Patrick Harris has brought to the show. i can't wait for next week's episode.

Lucha Underground was excellent as well. i really enjoyed all the matches. i'm hoping this promotion really starts to catch on with other wrestling fans.

speaking of wrestling, i listened to the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast with Jim Ross this morning. i highly recommend this episode. i also listened to the Nerdist podcast with Gillian Anderson. i enjoyed that as well, though i do regret never getting into the X-Files back in the day. i think my 38 year old self would enjoy it now. #XFiles2015

i believe mom wants to go to the store later today. i know she has some pills to pick up. i'm planning on tagging along as i need to do some people watching to get some words flowing in the head again. not sleeping in my bed has somewhat extinguished any poems here lately. now, a sane person would just bring their notebook down to the chair they are sleeping in. the writer would then protest about how he only writes the "good shit" up in his room. hence my dilemma.

the New York Rangers play up in Boston tonight. i'm hoping they can get back to their winning ways as i don't see want to see them start slumping going into the All-Star break.

other than that tonight, i might mix in some pro wrestling. i know i am planning on watching Dan Patrick on The Late Show with David Letterman.

i will probably be on here early tomorrow as we will be leaving in the afternoon to travel to Columbus to see the New York Rangers play the Columbus Blue Jackets Friday night. hopefully i'll finally get to see them win there in person. more on that tomorrow.

i need to get going and feed the cats. they are probably sleeping in the sun at the moment. i'm going to be the asshole to wake them up.

i hope everyone has a good day. thanks again for allowing me to waste a few minutes of your precious time.

such a long day...

it feels like i have been on the computer all damn day long. i just happened to look at the time and got that 'oh fuck' feeling that i need to get going.

i spent most of today going through the piles and piles of CDs i have and deciding what i was going to burn and/or sell. that took a few hours. given that, you can imagine just how many CDs i have. i picked out over 30 to try to sell tomorrow. hopefully i make a little money. i would love if i made enough to cover what i have already spent for Christmas.

of course, i'll be repeating this process in a month or so when we start the move. i have so much shit, i'm not sure what i'm going to be doing with it. fuck, i've been living here since 1997. you can imagine what has piled up around here.

tv last night was pretty damn good. Lucha Underground was fucking awesome last night. the ladder match was the best match they have had to date. i loved it. below are some of the highlights:

American Horror Story was excellent as well. i certainly love how sick the show is getting.

and then, Jimmy Fallon once again found a way to make me laugh my ass off:

mom found out the price it's going to cost to have the county deal with the cats...$60 a cat. fuck me. i guess if anyone wants any cats, please contact me. i suppose i have to hope the new owner of the farm, whoever the fuck that ends up being, loves cats. now the moral dilemma, do i stop feeding them? i can't imagine me doing that. fuck fuck fuck.

the fantasy football playoffs start tonight. i have Arizona's defense going tonight. hopefully they get me off to a good start. i'm a comfortable favorite as of right now, but i know that doesn't mean shit. it also doesn't mean shit that i have beaten the other 3 teams in the playoffs in the regular season. i'll be in and out of the game for most of the night.

i think The Big Bang Theory is new tonight, so i'll definitely be watching that.

i'm not real sure when i'll be on here tomorrow. mom has some clothes she wants to donate tomorrow and since that place is not far from the place i go to sell music, we're carpooling tomorrow. i figure we will probably end up doing lunch and the grocery shopping while we're out as well. so, maybe i'll be on here after all that. don't get your hopes up that i'll be a good boy and post early in the morning. i feel like i really need to get some fucking sleep.

as my mother has said for the last 20 years... getting old is not for sissies.

thanks again to all 3 of you for letting me waste a few minutes of your time.

be well. be creative. be cool. be quick to send me CASH, panties, hate mail, love letters, broken promises and dirty pennies from heaven.

how a skunk can ruin life in general

was watching Duck Dynasty last night, laughing my ass of like usual, when i looked over to my mother and asked her if she smelled a skunk. she said yes and went to turn on the outside lights. sure enough, as i'm looking out the bay window, there is a skunk sniffing around the room one of the cats stays in. needless to say, that fucking smell lasted for the rest of the night. it doesn't bother me at all, i suppose because i have lived out here since 1997. as for my mother, she usually gags anytime she smells it. good fun.

i enjoyed most of the Sunday night shows. Big Brother was more of a catch up for me as i missed the show on Thursday. The Newsroom was excellent once again. i think it probably does a better job than most people believe about showing the inner workings of the behind the scenes aspects of a news show. Ray Donovan was great. anytime you can add James Woods to a cast, the show is going to be better. as for Total Divas, maybe i was tired or maybe the show just sucked, but i wasn't feeling it. i did enjoy the in ring conversation near the end of the show, as for the other 55 minutes, blah blah blah. a waste.

the Yankees start up a series with the Angels tonight. i would love to see a sweep or take 3 out of 4. they definitely need to win the series to have any chance of making the playoffs this season. i'll start off with that tonight.

but most of the evening will be spent on Monday Night Raw. given that it's the last live show before the upcoming PPV, i expect 3 hours of goodness. and considering CM Punk is going to be featured tonight, i should be happy.

i got some more illustrations from the artist in Sweden this morning. looks like i have 14 poems to come up with in the next week or so. i guess he took me at my word when i said i don't mind a challenge. so, if you don't see me much this week, you'll know where i am. writing and sending out feelers to publishers.

and, if you happen to understand my creative process, this music list below will explain most things.

hope this finds everyone drunk and stupid.

Ivan & Alyosha - The Cabin Sessions

at least the weather is nice

we had a bit of a plumbing nightmare yesterday as our water softener has more or less died. we'll be having a new one put in on Tuesday. needless to say, i won't be going to the tap for anything for the next few days. i'm basically waiting to see if the water we have now will glow in the dark or catch fire. fun.

i watched a few innings of the latest Yankee debacle last night. 4th loss in a row. i can't wait for this team to find bottom. hopefully it is soon. at least tonight's game is blacked out for me, so i won't be bothered with it.

i watched a little of the start of the Confederations Cup today. a nice tune-up for the World Cup next year. Brazil looked pretty good today.

my sister came down this morning. i got a look at her new car. looks really nice but there is basically no way i'll be in it. it sits way too low for my back. oh well. we did mom's birthday today. i think she was pretty pleased with her gifts. i have no clue if we're doing anything tomorrow. i believe my sister has to go back home tonight. maybe a Waffle House breakfast or something. or maybe not.

not sure what is going to win out for me this evening. the Batman movie on HBO or game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final. given how i feel about sports these days, i'm leaning to Batman.

plenty of reports that the New York Rangers have hired a new coach. it's the guy i was hoping for, Vancouver's former coach. i wanted him simply so i wouldn't have to see one of my heroes get fired. besides, i don't think Messier is ready for it just yet.

that's pretty much all for today.

a quick tip to the muse, turn your phone off. that tends to help stop the calls you don't want. and get some more sleep, you need it.

peace and chicken grease.

musings on a partly cloudy Tuesday

it's amazing what a huge win does for me on the day after. i don't hate people as much. the sun actually comes out. the music sounds better. hopefully the feeling can last for a few days at least.

the New York Rangers had a HUGE 4-3 win last night. nice to see them score some goals, especially from some unlikely sources. also, it was so good to see Marc Staal back in the lineup. hopefully the good momentum will continue to Wednesday and they can tie the series up at 2. here are the highlights from last night:

i did catch a good bit of The Voice last night. the only singer from team Usher that does anything for me is Michelle. as for team Adam, he's got 4 singers that could possibly win it all. i would have to put Judith and Amber a little higher than the other two. hopefully the performances tonight are as good as last night.

Monday Night Raw got the short stick from me as i ended up paying more attention to the Bulls vs. Heat than i thought i would. judging by the internet, it doesn't appear i missed much at all.

i was able to catch the Big C a little earlier than i thought. a really good episode but a little sad as well. doesn't help that my stepfather died from cancer. so many things in the show bring back so many memories. hard to believe it's been 11 years.

the Yankees start a series in Colorado tonight. not many good memories from previous games out there, as they usually turn into softball scores. i'm just hoping none of the pitchers get hurt playing in the national league parks. the last thing this team needs is more fucking injuries.

throw in some Deadliest Catch tonight and the playoffs in the NHL and NBA and i've got another full slate of tv again tonight.

what really sucks is i'm having problems napping in the afternoon. i'm getting too old to run on just a few hours anymore.

toying with a few ideas for some new YouTube videos. if those ideas actually result in something, i'll be sure to post them here as well as my YouTube channel.

if the rain can hold off for the rest of today and tomorrow morning, looks like i'll be pressing my luck and seeing just how quickly i can get the grass cut.

music today:

ZZ Ward - Til The Casket Drops
The Lone Bellow - The Lone Bellow
Old Crow Medicine Show - O.C.M.S.
