to say i was a little shocked last night when the news came down that the New York Yankees signed Jacoby Ellsbury would be an understatement. i figured he would leave the Red Sox but i never thought the Yankees would sign him. and certainly not to a deal worth $169 million if all the bonuses are met. wow. i should have played baseball.
add to that the news this morning that the New York Rangers have signed The King to a long term contract extension. i am absolutely thrilled they got this done and didn't let it drag out any longer. hopefully, Henrik knows now the expectation is winning the Stanley Cup.
i certainly wasn't surprised when the last 2 facing elimination on The Voice last night was Matthew and James. and when Matthew got eliminated, i immediately said aloud fuck you Christina. he was good enough to win the show but picked the wrong coach. as she is only interested in Jacquie winning. now, i hope Cole wins the show. Adam has 3 of the final 5, so he has the odds. i don't like him as a coach either, so i wouldn't be surprised if he fucks this up as well.
other than that last night, i flipped between some college basketball games and listened to the latest podcast of the Sam Roberts Show Online.
my today is pretty damn packed. Manchester United faces Everton this afternoon. i believe RvP may be back for this game. chances are they will need him. i'd love to see United get a home win over a side higher than them in the table, but i wouldn't be shocked if Moyes somehow fucks this up against his former club.
after that ends it's pretty much right into the car and on my way to watch the Dayton Flyers face Delaware State. what i am hoping to see is Dayton destroy this team and really start to flex the muscles of a top 25 team. they faced this scenario 2 years ago after winning a Thanksgiving tourney and got their asses handed to them by a shitty Buffalo team that only ended up winning 10 games that year. i hope they have learned from their mistakes.
after the game and a bit of food, i'm hoping to get back home in time to see American Horror Story. if not, there's always the repeat that comes on at like 2 in the morning.
not sure what's going on with my computer this morning. not fun when you put in a CD you really want to listen to and it says that it is blank. i'm really not in the mood to try to get this figured out at the moment, so i'm hoping a reboot is all i need to do.
that's all for me today. hope this finds everyone well.

now that's a damn cold front
woke up this morning to temps in the 40's. it was in the 80's just the other day. i know we got well over 2 inches of rain yesterday. had a little minor flooding in the lane, but nothing compared to some of the shit we've had before.
after i wrote my post for yesterday, i decided to take a chance and get the trash out early. i figured it was heavy enough that it wouldn't go flying in the oncoming storm. (i was right) i figured since i was going to be out in the rain, i might as well feed the cats. all was fine until i got to the second stall in the big barn. there was my cat Michael Jackson deader than dead. must have died in the last 18 hours or so. so, i went and got a shovel and walked in the rain towards the back of the property. said my goodbye and tossed it down the hill. took the trash down and then had to go change my wet clothes.
i thought i was having a decent day in fantasy football until i noticed one of my opponents changed his starting QB to Tony Romo. sadly, that was the same opponent i was already down 41 points to. my team scored 94. he had three players score 91. needless to say i lost by 40. and if i would have played all the highest scoring players, i still would have lost by 19. tip your hat and move on. as for my other match, i have a slight lead going into tonight. but i don't like my chances. i have the kicker for Atlanta while my opponent has the RB for the Jets. i will hope for the best but know that my chances of winning are slim at best.
i did enjoy that shootout yesterday between Dallas and Denver.
as for the Sunday night shows, Boardwalk Empire was great last night. a very gripping episode from start to finish. i thought the suicide at the end was perfectly shot. Eastbound and Down was absolutely hilarious. you can never go wrong when you have an episode that has kids calling their father a dick licker. Hello Ladies was really disappointing for me last night. i didn't find it funny at all. i suppose i will give the show another week, but if next week stinks that time slot will go back to sports. Homeland was good, not great. but it appears that this episode was used to set up the next one that looks really interesting. hopefully that is the case. Masters of Sex was my biggest disappointment of the night. the first show was so damn good and last night just dragged, start to finish. i'm really hoping next week is a much better episode.
tonight will be the hodgepodge of The Voice, Monday Night Raw, some Monday Night Football and after all that, the New York Rangers are playing out in Los Angeles. i really hope they can get the win tonight. the captain is back in the lineup, that should be a boost. i don't want to start the season on a long losing streak.
in my grogginess this morning (went to bed at 4 AM and was up at 8 AM), i emailed 5 poems to Zygote in My Coffee. when i hear back from Brian i will pass along the verdict.
that's pretty much all for today. oh yeah, another thing, i had an excellent glass of Sauvignon Blanc from France last evening. here is a link to it: http://us.nakedwines.com/wines/villebois-sauvignon-blanc-2012.htm

how a skunk can ruin life in general
was watching Duck Dynasty last night, laughing my ass of like usual, when i looked over to my mother and asked her if she smelled a skunk. she said yes and went to turn on the outside lights. sure enough, as i'm looking out the bay window, there is a skunk sniffing around the room one of the cats stays in. needless to say, that fucking smell lasted for the rest of the night. it doesn't bother me at all, i suppose because i have lived out here since 1997. as for my mother, she usually gags anytime she smells it. good fun.
i enjoyed most of the Sunday night shows. Big Brother was more of a catch up for me as i missed the show on Thursday. The Newsroom was excellent once again. i think it probably does a better job than most people believe about showing the inner workings of the behind the scenes aspects of a news show. Ray Donovan was great. anytime you can add James Woods to a cast, the show is going to be better. as for Total Divas, maybe i was tired or maybe the show just sucked, but i wasn't feeling it. i did enjoy the in ring conversation near the end of the show, as for the other 55 minutes, blah blah blah. a waste.
the Yankees start up a series with the Angels tonight. i would love to see a sweep or take 3 out of 4. they definitely need to win the series to have any chance of making the playoffs this season. i'll start off with that tonight.
but most of the evening will be spent on Monday Night Raw. given that it's the last live show before the upcoming PPV, i expect 3 hours of goodness. and considering CM Punk is going to be featured tonight, i should be happy.
i got some more illustrations from the artist in Sweden this morning. looks like i have 14 poems to come up with in the next week or so. i guess he took me at my word when i said i don't mind a challenge. so, if you don't see me much this week, you'll know where i am. writing and sending out feelers to publishers.
and, if you happen to understand my creative process, this music list below will explain most things.
hope this finds everyone drunk and stupid.

now it feels like spring
the sun is out, flowers are coming up, caught a skunk eating the cat food, and saw my cat Rita Dove lying on her side in the igloo in one of the stalls. got a little closer and realized she was nursing what looked like 3 kittens that she must have had in the last few days. just great.
i tried to get a picture of the groundhog that lives out here on the farm but the fucker was already gone by the time i got the camera out. but, since i had it out, i figured i might as well take some pictures. below are 2 of the 10 i took. the rest can be seen on my Google+ page.
the only reason i watched the NFL Draft last night was to see how the Manti T'eo bet would play out on the Dan Patrick Show. other than that, it was boring beyond belief.
the New York Yankees had a nice 5-3 come from behind win last night. always nice to win when you start off in a 3-0 hole. home runs from Wells, Cervelli, and Cano do the trick. hopefully this home stand can get them in a groove and right into a better May.
the New York Rangers got off to a great start last night. then pissed it all away. then tied the game late. and then Captain Cally does what every great captain should do. score the winning goal in overtime to clinch a playoff spot. highlights below:
the poet of the day on my Google+ page is Melanie Browne. i have always enjoyed her work when i have come across it. a quick Google search should yield you a few links to her work that are different from the ones on my page.
hope everyone has a great weekend.
music today:
Foo Fighters - Wasting Light
Ivan & Alyosha - The Cabin Sessions

frustration
so i flipped over to the Yankees game yesterday and saw that Kuroda was dealing (perfect through 6 innings). then i flip back to see Cano fuck up a double play which gave the Tigers their first run. i had the bad fortune of flipping back the next time to see a blown call at second base. and given that i have watched baseball my entire life, i know how the baseball gods work when an umpire fucks up the third out of an inning. sure enough, the Tigers score 2 more runs and eventually win 3-0. given that the offense is more or less dead, i'm not sure if he would have got the call right it would have meant much. but a little note to baseball, given the technology of today when everyone with any kind of device could see within 30 seconds that the call was wrong, wake the fuck up. if you wonder why the sport is becoming obsolete... god forbid you actually have a playoff game where the calls are correct. who the fuck would want that.
and another note, this one to Nick Swisher, who is hurt that Yankee fans are booing him. newsflash, you fucking suck in the playoffs. you've had 4 years of good to great regular seasons and 4 playoff years of complete fucking ineptitude. if you don't want to play in a place where the second season means everything, enjoy collecting a check in some other town next year.
if the getting out of Yankee Stadium excuse doesn't work for the offense, i'm hoping they just lose the next 2 games and get this fucking tease of a season over with. that way i can decide which minor league hockey team i'm going to follow (thank you NHL, you dumb asses) or god forbid, have to watch the NBA season from start to finish.
as for football, had my worst week of picking games in a long, long time. under 50% is absolutely shitty. i am winning my 3 fantasy football games, but i can sill lose 2 of them. that leaves me with no choice but to pay attention to the game tonight. great, 4 hours of Gruden blowing Peyton Manning. lovely.
now, it's to the outdoors to assess wind damage from yesterday. welcome to a farm with buildings from the 1800's on it.

after a great weekend...
happy pointless Monday off. where to begin...
the Yankees rally last night came out of nowhere. i was shocked when they scored that many runs off of the Baltimore closer. shocked and thrilled. hopefully that fucks him for the rest of the series. hopefully the old war horse named Andy Pettitte can go out tonight and get a commanding lead to the series.
i can't remember the last time Ohio State put up 63 points against a name team. let alone Nebraska. that game was a pleasant sight of hopefully what is coming in the next few years. i can't imagine what this team will look like when Coach Meyer gets all of his players in. i can certainly get used to beating the shit out of people.
Sunday morning was the best i have seen Manchester United play this season. a complete 90 minutes. 3-0 to repay Newcastle back for the loss last season. shockingly, the goals came from Evans, Evra, and Cleverly. i can only imagine the amount of money you could have won if you got those 3 names right. hopefully they bottle that performance and repeat it for the rest of the season. if so, shine up the trophies.
the only negative of the weekend was how i can manage to score over 100 points in fantasy football and still lose. hopefully i can pull out 1 of the 2 remaining matches with a good performance from the Texans tonight. between the baseball playoffs, Monday Night Raw, and The Voice, i doubt i'll watch much of it. what ever happens happens.

Hammock - Departure Songs Sampler
Escondido - Escondido EP
