sometimes i feel like i get complacent with my writing. now, it could be the truth or it could just be me not willing to accept rejection. who knows. but, that wild hair got up my ass today and i started to hunt for some places i had never sent to before. i found a couple that i felt like i had a decent shot at getting into and one had a deadline of today. that meant i had to get my ass in gear. it's amazing how quick i can get shit done when the adrenaline kicks in. i sent out 11 poems today; 5 to Profane and 6 to The Hungry Chimera. when i hear back from these places i will pass along the verdicts.
the New York Yankees offense came alive yesterday. of course, that meant the pitching went to shit. the Yankees won the first game of the doubleheader yesterday 11-6. they lost the nightcap 10-7. at least the win came before the Derek Jeter ceremony. that was excellent as usual.
the two episodes of Guerrilla last night were great. the only thing i didn't like about the series is it was only 6 episodes.
Veep was fucking hilarious last night.
Silicon Valley was very good last night.
Last Week Tonight was great as usual.

on the DVR tonight will be Vice News Tonight, The Voice and Gotham. i'll be watching Monday Night Raw for most of the evening.
i might watch some of Game 7 between the Celtics and Wizards tonight. my NBA rules still apply though. i'll only watch the last 5 minutes of any NBA game because that is the only time the game is good.
i will probably be on here tomorrow after i do a little shopping at Menards. we are getting low on birdseed and mom wants me to get some new solar lights.
i hope everyone had a great weekend.
be well. be creative. be cool. be quick to send me CASH, panties, hate mail, love letters, broken promises and dirty pennies from heaven.

i believe mom liked everything she got today. plus, she wanted Chinese food for some damn reason. my sister went and got that for her.
from what i got to see last night, Saturday Night Live was pretty fucking funny. sadly, my local NBC station doesn't know what the fuck it is doing on Saturday night. they will just run local commercials sometimes rather than the show. as a guy who loves comedy, that's a good way to piss me off.
ROH was excellent last night.

the New York Yankees are playing a doubleheader today against Houston, weather permitting. the second game tonight is when they will be retiring Derek Jeter's number 2.
Kevin Hayes and Brady Skjei, from the New York Rangers, got added to team USA over at the 2017 Ice Hockey World Championship in Europe. so, i guess i will be paying attention to that now.
i did see Ottawa beat Pittsburgh in OT last night. i just happened to flip over and 20 seconds later Bobby Ryan scored in OT.
i wasn't looking forward to the Manchester United game today against Tottenham. it was the last game to be played at White Hart Lane, so i figured the Spurs would be gunning for a victory. United has nothing to play for but pride really, as they have no chance to finish in the top 4 now. they have to win the Europa League or this season will be a complete fucking failure. United lost 2-1 today. they showed no desire to play until the last 25 minutes or so. i guess if i want to be an asshole, Wayne Rooney did score the last ever goal at White Hart Lane. so there's that...
i hope everyone had a great Saturday. hopefully your Sunday will be even better.
be well. be creative. be cool. be quick to send me CASH, panties, hate mail, love letters, broken promises and dirty pennies from heaven.
first, a little poetry news to get out of the way. i heard back from Cami at Easy Street on my poetry submission from last month. she decided to pass on the poems i sent. so with those 5 and the 5 i wrote the other day, some lucky soul is going to get some poems in the next few days.
i wasn't particularly pleased last night when the Yankees closer blew a 4-1 lead in the 9th inning. and i certainly wasn't happy when i was still watching the game at 2 in the morning. thankfully, the Yankees won 5-4 in 18 innings early this morning to sweep the Cubs. the Yankees start a series in Cincinnati tonight.
Silicon Valley was great last night.
Veep was fucking hilarious last night.
Last Week Tonight was excellent as always.
Guerrilla was very good last night. the finale next week should be very interesting.
the season finale of Billions was damn near perfect last night. and the ending certainly sets up the next season.
Lip Sync Battle was on MTV last night, right before the Movie Awards, which i never bother to watch. i had no damn clue of the two "stars" on the show, but it was much more entertaining than i thought it was going to be.

i actually saw a hummingbird using the feeder i put out last week earlier today. i'm hoping one of these days i'm going to get video of it.
the first part of the Mother's Day gifts i got for mom came today. thanks to the postal service for cramming it in the mailbox. the second part is due on Wednesday. if they try to cram that in the mailbox, you'll be hearing about some odd violence on the national news.
i hope everyone had a great weekend.

when i saw the lineup that Manchester United put out this morning, i certainly thought it was a lineup that "could" beat Arsenal today. of course, after watching the first half and a couple of chances that should have been goals (what else is new), i knew i was wrong. when Arsenal scored 2 in the second half, i just turned the game off. i knew the unbeaten streak was going to be over and all hope of finishing in the top 4 as well. so, now all the eggs are in the Europa basket i guess.
the New York Rangers pissed away another game they should have won yesterday. they blew a 2 goal lead yet again and lost in overtime 4-3. they now trail in the series 3-2. Game 6 will be Tuesday at MSG. part of me almost hopes they lose so the coach gets fired and i can fucking shave.
thankfully, the New York Yankees scored early and often yesterday against the Cubs. they won 11-6. they go for the sweep tonight.
Always Dreaming winning the Kentucky Derby yesterday was rather appropriate i suppose.
ROH was excellent last night.
Saturday Night Live was pretty damn funny last night.
Chris Gethard: Career Suicide was fucking fantastic last night. i laughed, i cried, some of it hit really close to home, but overall it was great.

i did do a little writing after i turned the game off this morning. i wrote 5 poems. i like most of them after i typed them up this afternoon.
i fed the birds this afternoon as well. they almost allowed me to walk away before they attacked the suet i put out.
i was so happy to find out yesterday that Dayton finally has a point guard. Jalen Crutcher out of Memphis, Tennessee signed with the Flyers. he's going to be a good one from what i have seen of him.
congrats to France for not fucking up the world.

i think i have been in pain for about the last 15 hours or so. arthritis is slowly driving me even more insane than normal, which can't possibly lead to something good. it wasn't exactly great watching wrestling last night while curled up in a ball aching like a motherfucker.
i did a little poetry work today. hopefully tomorrow i'll be sending out 15 poems.
the New York Yankees left a small village on base yesterday (16) and lost to Baltimore 7-4 in 11 innings. so much for the sweep. they start a series tonight with Toronto.
WWE Payback was much better than i expected last night. i was a little surprised by a few of the matches, especially KO vs. Jericho and Alexa Bliss vs. Bayley. the House of Horrors match was so bad i was laughing during it. and i can't get enough of Braun Strowman just beating the shit out of everyone.
Veep was excellent last night.
Silicon Valley was hilarious last night.
Guerrilla was great last night.
Billions was amazing last night. the season finale next week should be incredible.

i took mom today to her podiatrist. he prescribed an oral medication that "should" help with her feet faster than what the ointments and soakings are doing. i suppose time will tell.
hard to believe it's already May 1st. time certainly flies the closer you get to the circle being complete.
i hope everyone had a great weekend. i'll probably be on here tomorrow after a trip to the bank and most likely the pharmacy.

i woke up early this morning to watch Manchester United play. i had a good laugh when the guy doing color commentary said that Old Trafford is now called the Theater of Draws. sadly, the same shit that has gone on all season happened again today. United knew if they won their 5 remaining games, they would finish in the top 4 of the league, no matter what. so, knowing that, they went out and played like shit. if Rashford didn't con the fucking ref for that penalty call late in the first half, United would have lost today. and sadly, they would have deserved to. what a fucking waste. on top of all that, they have two new injuries to deal with as well. they play in Spain on Thursday (Europa League semi-finals) next and then get to play Arsenal on Sunday. joy.
the New York Yankees stayed hot yesterday and whipped Baltimore 12-4. they will go for the sweep today. i think this is the first time in 600 some days that they have been in first place in the division. they actually have the best record in baseball now. no one saw that coming.
the New York Rangers had a 4-2 lead going into the 3rd period yesterday. they had a 2 goal lead in the last 4 minutes of the game. so, you might imagine my anger, frustration and pure fucking venom after they lost 6-5 in 2OT. to watch Ottawa constantly outwork them time after time is beyond fucking frustrating. to watch AV bury players on the bench because he has his head up his ass is pushing me to the point of hoping he gets fired even if the Rangers somehow win this series. Brady Skjei was amazing yesterday, so of course he gets benched as they tried to sit on the lead late. whoops. the dumb fuck did the same thing against Montreal in Game 2. Game 3 is Tuesday back at MSG. that will be a MUST WIN game.
i wasn't pleased with who the New Orleans Saints chose with their only pick yesterday. i'm not sure taking a guy that got kicked out of college was the best thing they could have done. hopefully they did their homework and it won't be a wasted draft pick. overall, i think the Saints had a very good draft. they filled plenty of needs, especially on defense.
i did write 7 poems last night. i typed them up this morning. i really like a few of them. in total, i wrote 32 poems this month. so i met my goal of writing more poems than days in the month. hopefully i can keep that up.
ROH was excellent last night.
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony was really good last night. the 3 hour broadcast flew by, which is always a good sign. i truly loved David Letterman's speech for Pearl Jam.

so, i was sitting there in the dermatologist's office, waiting for my mother to get called in, when this stunning blonde walked in. and when i mean stunning, i'm talking holy shit beautiful. and i caught myself looking for a ring, which amazingly she didn't have. of course, mom's name got called a few minutes later. and just my luck, the stunning blonde wasn't still in the waiting room when we were leaving. i'm sure it doesn't help matters that i'm rarely in public anymore unless i'm taking mom to an appointment or doing the grocery shopping. it's a recipe to ensure loneliness that's for sure.
i sent out 15 poems last night, 5 each to Easy Street and Live Nude Poems; 2 to Tuck Magazine (already accepted for publication) and 3 poems to Mad Swirl. when i hear back from these places i will pass along the verdicts.
the New York Rangers will be facing the Ottawa Senators in the next round of the playoffs. i guess we'll see firsthand who won the trade from the off-season. it should be another tough one, but since the Rangers have the better goalie, i'll go with them.
the other matchups in the playoffs are Pittsburgh vs. Washington, Nashville vs. St. Louis and Edmonton vs. Anaheim. there was 18 OT games in the first round. i wouldn't be surprised if they get close to that number again in the second round. the Rangers series starts on Thursday.
the New York Yankees lost yesterday 2-1. a former pitcher for the team shut them down for most of the game. the Yankees had a chance to win the game late. they never could get a big hit though. shit happens. they start a series in Boston tomorrow night.
Silicon Valley was fucking hilarious last night.
Veep was excellent once again last night.
Last Week Tonight was fucking hilarious last night.
Guerrilla was really good last night. for me, Rory Kinnear is the one stealing the show.
Billions was excellent last night. i especially loved the ending. it's what always drew me to the show to begin with, sexual deviancy.
the finale of Feud: Bette and Joan last night was great. the acting that Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange did on this show was amazing.

El Clasico yesterday was just that, a classic. the game between Real Madrid and Barcelona had everything you could want in a game. goals, violence, controversy, and a winning goal at the death. such an amazing game.

when Montreal scored first last night, i was not really pissed, just disappointed. i was hoping the Rangers were going to come out with the urgency of now. thankfully, that clicked in during the second period and the Rangers, notably the line of Miller, Hayes and Zuccarello, took over the game and finished off Montreal 3-1. that was one sweet victory drink last night. the Rangers will play either Boston or Ottawa in the next round. i could care less who they play. they have 12 wins to go to bring home the greatest trophy in all of sports.
the New York Yankees broke out the long ball yesterday and beat the Pirates 11-5. i believe the ball Aaron Judge hit may still be going. they will go for the series win this afternoon.
ROH was excellent last night.
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks was great last night. i urge everyone to check this out when you get a chance. if Oprah doesn't win an award for her performance, i'll be stunned.
i am now on Goodreads. i figured i might as well start an account, mostly for shits and giggles. you can find my page by going here: goodreads.com/jjthepoet

i will be watching El Clasico today, Real Madrid vs. Barcelona. it's really one of the matches i try to make time for that doesn't include a team i love.
speaking of that team, Manchester United had to start a different lineup today, because of injuries and whatnot. when i saw Wayne Rooney was starting, i was a bit surprised. imagine my surprise when the old fucker scored. United won today 2-0 with goals from Martial and Rooney. of course, it wouldn't be a Manchester United game if there wasn't some kind of injury scare. this time it's Paul Pogba. United next plays on Thursday against Manchester Shitty. United is now only 1 point behind their neighbors.
if i can find a few spare moments today, i am going to try to get those poems out. the longer i sit on them, the more i will question if they are the right ones for the right place... this is when i always try to keep my favorite Allen Ginsberg quote in mind... first thought, best thought.

you know, the kind of day where you would love to just find a good recliner and take a nap that lasts all afternoon and a good portion of the evening. instead, i've spent most of the day doing dishes and laundry, wondering when my mother is going to realize getting a dishwasher isn't one of those outlandish thoughts for 2017.
Easter dinner yesterday went pretty well. i think my sister and i have matured enough to this point where we realize nothing truly can be gained from fighting with each other.
the New York Rangers played like shit yesterday. they didn't even bother to fake having a pulse until 57 minutes into the game. it's way too fucking late by then. Montreal won 3-1. if The King wouldn't have been excellent again yesterday, it would have been 6, 7 or 8 to 1. truly a fucking joke. Game 4 is on Tuesday. if the Rangers play like that again, this series is more or less over.
when that's the only highlight from the game for the Rangers, you know it was a truly shitty game.
thankfully, the New York Yankees continued their roll last night. Greg Bird finally broke out of his slump and the pitching was excellent once again. they beat St. Louis 9-3 for their second straight sweep. they start a series with the Chicago White Sox tonight. hopefully they can keep the winning streak going.
the series finale of Girls was about what i expected. the one thing i truly enjoyed about the show was how good it was at showing that some parts of life are just fucking mundane. there is no glamour or joy in them. and showing Hannah's frustration with being a new mother was a nice realistic example of what 99.9% of mothers go through. i never cared for shows that sugarcoat reality to a degree that is nothing more than fantasy.
Veep was fucking great last night. i absolutely love the pace of the comedy in the show.
Last Week Tonight was brilliant as always last night. hopefully the people of France were watching.
Guerrilla was very interesting last night. 1971 London is a little before my time, so i was pretty interested in the show. after watching the first episode, i'm in for all 6 episodes now.
Billions was excellent last night. next week's episode certainly looks even more interesting.
Feud: Bette and Joan was great once again. next week is the finale.

when i saw that Zlatan Ibrahimovic wasn't starting today for Manchester United, i figured they decided they couldn't win against Chelsea, so save him for the Europa League. boy, was i wrong. United easily played their best game of the season today, blanking the league leaders 2-0. that's United's first win over Chelsea since Sir Alex was coaching the team. even better, it was the first game that Chelsea didn't have a shot on goal in a decade. it was a pure fucking joy to watch. this will be one of the sweetest victory drinks in years. hats off to Ander Herrera today, one for his goal and two for putting Eden Hazard in his pocket and never letting him out. brilliant.
Saturday Night Live was really good last night, at least what i got to see. for some fucking reason, our local NBC station ran extra commercials and didn't even bother showing the last 10 minutes of the show.
ROH was excellent last night as well.
i watched a good amount of UFC last night. i was not disappointed.
the New York Yankees got some great pitching from CC yesterday and held on for a 3-2 victory. that's 6 in a row. they will go for another sweep tonight.
