as my mother would put it, i've been busier than nine cats trying to cover up shit in a windstorm this afternoon. and in that haste, i didn't dress properly for being out in the cold. i had to go to the store and get my pills. plus, i figured i would get me some early birthday alcohol as well. the alcohol cost more than the pills and the groceries i got while there. while i was putting the bags in the car, i realized i should have worn something warmer. the wind was fucking killing me. i think i sat in the car for a few minutes with just the heat running, trying to get my fingers to wake up. good times.
Monday Night Raw was pretty good last night. i could watch Braun Strowman just beat the shit out of everyone for a really long time and never get bored.

the New York Rangers play tonight at home against Philadelphia. i'd love to see the boys end their losing streak tonight. i'm not holding my breath.
i'll be on here tomorrow, probably in the afternoon. i have to take mom south of town in the morning for physical therapy. i believe it's at the same place she got therapy a year or so ago. after that, since we'll be getting out of there sometime around noon, i figured we might go to lunch somewhere down there. of course, that all depends on the weather and how mom is feeling.

when the New Orleans Saints were down 17-0 yesterday, i wasn't happy. but, i still had hope. to watch the boys fight their way back in the game and eventually take the lead, i was beyond fucking thrilled. and then to watch them lose the way they did, i was fucking crushed. just one fucking tackle away from having a chance to play in the Super Bowl. i have understood the bitterness of losing since i was a child. this will be one of those losses that i'll never get over, like the Yankees losing in the World Series or the Rangers losing the Stanley Cup in OT. certain losses just stick with you and take years off of your life. i am very happy that Marcus Williams stood up and took all the blame for missing the tackle. he was a great rookie this season and has vowed that that play will never happen again. god willing, since the Saints are pretty young, they will all have the chance to amend for yesterday in the years to come. but, having been a fan of this team since 1982, i know that these chances are few and far between.
to put my mood in an even shittier place, the New York Rangers lost last night at Pittsburgh 5-2. just another game where they were vastly outplayed, especially considering the Rangers were up 2-1 after the first period. they play again on Tuesday at home against Philadelphia.
Shameless was great last night.
The Chi was excellent last night.
Divorce was pretty good last night.
Crashing was pretty funny last night.

it figures that on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the asshole that pretends to be the President of this country would spend it on a fucking golf course.
it has snowed here most of the day. i went out and got the newspaper this morning before it got too bad. one of the guys in the neighborhood came over and cleaned off the driveway this afternoon. that was certainly unexpected.
Manchester United defeated Stoke today 3-0. the goals came from Valencia, Martial and Lukaku. and with Manchester City losing yesterday, United is now 12 points behind. more importantly, they are 3 points ahead of everyone else chasing the second spot in the league.
i was absolutely gutted to find out that Dolores O'Riordan died today at 46 years old. The Cranberries were one of those bands from the 90's that stuck in my head as soon as i heard her voice. i guess 2018 is going to be just like the last 2 years, shocking death after shocking death. joy. rest in peace, wherever you happen to land.
i hope everyone had a great weekend. 6 days until my birthday. i almost give a fuck.

the New Orleans Saints play today at Minnesota. the Saints are a 5 point underdog. i know the Saints will have to be close to perfect to win today, but i have a feeling they are going to pull it off. and if that happens, they will be playing at Philadelphia on my birthday for a chance to go to the Super Bowl. i really hope that is what happens.
i did watch some of the NFL playoffs yesterday. i was hoping Atlanta was going to win. if that would have happened, the Saints (if they win today) could have hosted the NFC Championship next Sunday. but of course, the Falcons came up short, as usual. i didn't bother to watch much of the Patriots vs. Titans last night. after watching some of the first half, i knew the second half wouldn't be close.
the New York Rangers got embarrassed on home ice yesterday by the Islanders. it was beyond humiliating to watch them lose 7-2. i suppose it's a good thing they play again tonight on the road at Pittsburgh. of course, they could get torched again and that could be a good thing as well. the rumors are swirling that they are willing to start listening to trade offers. thank fucking god.
Austin City Limits was great last night. Jason Isbell certainly out-punted his coverage with Amanda Shires.
Saturday Night Live was really good last night. i just love when someone slips and says fuck on live television.
ROH was excellent last night.

as i sat down last night to watch the Dayton Flyers play, i wasn't sure what to expect. they hadn't won 2 games in a row all season. they were playing a VCU team that always plays them tough. etc. etc. Dayton got off to an amazing start last night and just didn't stop. they more or less scored at will. they scored the most points in school history in the first half. and i think it had been 20 years since they had scored this many points in a game. that was a lovely sight on a cold night. Dayton defeated VCU 106-79.
Vice News Tonight had another great week of shows.
NJPW was excellent last night.
Treehouse Masters was really good last night as well.

we didn't get as much snow as anyone was expecting last night. we certainly did get plenty of wind. so we do have a nice drift in front of our front door. i haven't ventured out yet to see what else went on last night. i figure i'll get out there after i get this done.
i did hear back from Misfit Magazine yesterday. Alan kindly reminded me that i already have 2 pieces accepted for the next issue and he didn't want to hold these poems for the Spring. i completely understand that. i find it comical that i forget any success i have but remember nearly every fucking time i have been rejected in my life. needless to say, those 5 poems will be sent out somewhere else soon.

i think it started snowing a good 2 hours before the weather assholes on television thought it was going to. i figure that will probably push us into the 6 to 8 inches of snow instead of 2 to 4. so, i think i made the right decision by not going to the basketball game tonight. now, i'm still debating if i should get the mail or just wait until tomorrow. of course, if we get 8 inches of snow, i might be waiting until Sunday. good times.
i wrote 8 poems last night. that brings my total for the month up to 11. i typed the poems up this afternoon. my printer went on strike for a portion of this afternoon. i laughed when i saw the troubleshooting step for me was to just wait. i waited a good 20 minutes and sure enough, the printer started working fine. crazy shit. i do like a few of the poems. i am planning another round of submissions around my birthday. i at least have 1 place in mind to send to for that. i'd love to get in the routine of sending to a place i have never sent to with each round of submissions, but i don't think that's going to happen.
The Big Bang Theory was really funny last night.

the way people were acting in the grocery store this afternoon, you would think the snow they are calling for is actually the end of the world sneaking up on us. the store was out of shit left and right. it was like people lined up this morning to pick through everything. on top of that, it has been raining all fucking day. so you can just imagine the joy i have had today.
on to the poetry news. i sent out 37 poems this morning. 3 each to The Beatnik Cowboy and The Apache Poetry Blog (already heard from); 5 each to Horror Sleaze Trash (already heard from), Brief Wilderness, Duane's PoeTree (already heard from), Synchronized Chaos (already heard from) and Misfit Magazine; 6 poems went to The Record magazine. when i hear back from the rest of these places, i will pass along the verdicts.

i have had a splitting headache since i woke up this morning. i get the feeling i may have to drink myself to sleep tonight.
i'm definitely not going to the basketball game tomorrow night after the latest forecast. we're supposed to get a nice thick layer of ice before we get anywhere from 2 to 6 inches of snow. oh great. you would have no clue it's going to turn to that after today with it in the fucking 50's and rainy.
i heard back from Duane at Duane's PoeTree on my poetry submission from earlier today. my poems "a warm winter evening", "trample your dreams", "dark tempting eyes", "behind those locked doors" and "death is easier than change" have been accepted for publication.
heard back from my good friend Janne Karlsson on the poems i sent him earlier today. my poems "most people tend to believe", "slink off into the sticks" and "the haunted old eyes" have been accepted for publication at The Apache Poetry Blog. whenever Janne publishes them, i'll be sure to post a link here on the blog. and rumor has it, one of my poems from my past might be making an appearance on the The Apache Poetry Blog tomorrow.
i heard back from Cristina at Synchronized Chaos on my poetry submission from earlier today. my poems "wading through the universe", "happy birthday", "many more of these moments", "the one-legged poet" and "warned by my white friends" have been accepted for publication. they will appear in the February issue (2/1/18).
they are saying a shitload of snow is coming on Friday. i've heard anything from 3 to 11 inches. needless to say, i'll be doing any shopping, getting gas, whatever, tomorrow. and i won't be going to the basketball game Friday night. my luck, i'd get caught in the storm on the way home.
i took mom out shopping today. we found a few things at Meijer. we then went to lunch. i spent most of that listening to the couple at the table next to us speak Spanish for most of their conversation. i'm pleasantly shocked at how much i can still remember. after lunch, we went to Dollar Tree. amazingly, we found plenty of stuff there. of course, whatever we didn't find i get to buy tomorrow at the store. plus, i have to pick up mom's prescriptions.
the Dayton Flyers did their best to piss away a 12 point halftime lead last night at Richmond. shockingly, they managed to never give up the lead in the second half. Dayton won the game 87-81. that's their first road win of the year. they next play Friday at home against VCU. it will be on national television, so that's another reason to not be out in the snow on Friday night.
Drop the Mic was pretty funny last night.
Smackdown was pretty good last night.

if i can get up with a little energy tomorrow, i do plan on finally getting some poems out into the world for 2018. if not tomorrow, then i'm forcing myself to do it on Friday.
i had a crazy dream last night that i found a stillborn piglet in the basement of the house i grew up in. and then suddenly, a wild boar made out of dust started to charge me and tried to eat me. i woke up and it was 5 in the morning. i think i had been asleep for 3 hours. i took it as a reminder that i should have started with the harder drugs sooner in life.
that's all for me kids. my birthday is in 11 days. if you feel so inclined to buy me something, there's a link to my Amazon.com wishlist on the right hand side of this blog. there's plenty of cheap shit on there by the way.

at least i was able to walk down the driveway this afternoon and there was no ice on it. that certainly made getting the trash out way easier.
i sat in on a video call with mom and her financial planner this morning. i am really happy with the direction he is going for mom's retirement. if the market keeps going up and mom can wait on needing money for awhile, she'll be set for the rest of her life easily. plus, that will (hopefully) leave a little for me as well.
the grocery store wasn't that busy this afternoon. i actually was able to find everything i was looking for. $75 for everything and that includes nearly $20 for fucking eye drops.
Monday Night Raw was very good last night.
David Bowie: The Last Five Years was great last night. as one reviewer put it, David taught all of us how to die.
i did watch a good portion of the end of the game last night between Alabama and Georgia. i laughed when i saw the screen shots from the Alabama message board from earlier in the season, worrying about a QB from Hawaii being able to bridge the communication gap with players from the South. the ignorance of some people is truly fucking sad. i was stunned when the kicker from Alabama missed the FG that would have won the game in regulation. and honestly, i figured when the game got to OT, if one team had to settle for a FG, the other team was going to win it on a TD. sure enough. Alabama won in OT over Georgia, 26-23.

i could tell right away yesterday that Carolina was hell bent on stopping the New Orleans Saints from running the ball. thank god, Drew Brees accepted the challenge and was on fire for most of the game. other than the idiotic decision to go for it on 4th down in the 4th quarter, a decision that probably took a few years off of my life, the Saints did what they needed to do to advance in the playoffs. their 31-26 victory over Carolina earns them a date at Minnesota next Sunday.
the New York Rangers lost last night at Las Vegas, 2-1. they are now off on their bye week. they don't play again until Saturday afternoon. god willing they will get healthy during that time off.
i did watch the Golden Globes last night. i thought the monologue was pretty funny. i had no problem with most of the speeches. i did appreciate when some of the women did point out that not all men are pieces of shit. plus, i'm pretty sure Oprah is going to run for President.
Shameless was great last night.
The Chi was really fucking good last night. i highly recommend this show to everyone.

after so many seasons of mediocrity, i'm so happy the New Orleans Saints actually have a team this season that has a chance to be remembered forever. that march starts today at home against Carolina. the Saints will have to do a difficult thing today, beat the same team 3 times in a season. but, i fully believe they can do it. if the Saints do win today, they will play in Minnesota in the next round.
after watching the Dayton Flyers yesterday, i was so damn happy i didn't go to the game. what pisses me off about their 62-60 loss to UMass, a team that was playing without 2 of their starters, was the coach of UMass is the coach i wanted Dayton to hire to replace Archie Miller. hopefully everyone that sits around me understands now why i wanted him to be the coach. and the more i listen to Anthony Grant talk after games, the more i'm starting to believe my conspiracy. the administration simply needs the team to be good by the time the UD Arena transformation is done. they will gladly accept mediocrity as they continue to sell what's coming in the future. as much as i really hope that rosy future arrives like they want, what fucking happens when it doesn't? it's so fucking painful to watch this team play when there is an obvious disconnect between coach and players. it's like watching a NBA team that is stuck in the middle. not bad enough to get a great draft pick and not good enough to do anything in the playoffs. i do know one thing, if this shit continues, i know a certain family member that isn't going to keep paying for tickets.
Austin City Limits was great last night.
the New York Rangers won last night out in Arizona, 2-1 in a shootout. thank god for The King. he stopped 38 of 39 shots against the worst team in the NHL. basically, at one point, you could see Hank tell his teammates to get the fuck out of the way, he's doing it by himself. the Rangers play tonight at Las Vegas.
ROH was excellent last night.
NJPW was 4 matches from Wrestle Kingdom 12 last night. i truly enjoyed the matches, especially Omega vs. Jericho and Okada vs. Naito.

so i woke up this morning to cramps in both of my lower legs. not exactly how i thought i would start my Saturday, but god knows i love a good fucking challenge. my hands aren't working well this morning as arthritis has decided it's running the fucking show today. so much for going to the basketball game at noon. mom said she wasn't going last night because of how cold it is. it was probably at least -15 when i went out to get the paper this morning. as my mother started telling me 20 years ago... growing old is not for sissies.
Vice News Tonight had another great week of shows.
Treehouse Masters was pretty good last night. i never thought i'd see the day of basically everything but a fucking garage in the trees.
team USA beat the Czech Republic yesterday at the World Juniors 9-3 to win the Bronze.
Canada beat Sweden 3-1 to win the Gold medal. Sweden's captain, a draft pick of the New York Rangers, tossed his silver medal into the stands after he got it. i love a guy who hates to lose. of course, i'm sure the Rangers will now trade him at some point and then we get to see him become a star on some other team.
Manchester United won yesterday 2-0 over Derby County to advance to the next round of the FA Cup. the boys left it late, but, as usual here lately, Lingard to the rescue. Lukaku scored the other goal.
