here we go...

i am still buzzing from the good news i got last night. my ego always has felt like i deserve more recognition for my poetry. i tend to laugh at that for the most part, until someone actually does give me that recognition. i have been at this for over 30 years since i first got published. no wonder i feel like i am getting close to the end...

technically, the last weekend of the summer...

it's another hot and muggy day today. i could feel myself sweating while walking out to get the mail. good times.

the New York Yankees lost last night to Toronto, 4-3. hopefully, they will get a victory this afternoon.

the New York Rangers lost last night to the Devils, 4-2. i didn't watch much of the game.

AAA Presents Lucha Invades NY was pretty good last night.

Murder in the Bayou was excellent last night.

Room 104 was great last night.

Real Time with Bill Maher was hilarious last night.

enjoy some music:

and now some of this and that:

on the DVR tonight will be ROH.

Ohio State plays Miami (Ohio) this afternoon. i'm hoping Ohio State doesn't think all they have to do is just show up and they will win.

i'm sure i will watch plenty of other college football games today and tonight.

i did vacuum the house this morning. now, i really could use some ice for my bad back.

i should be on here tomorrow after the Manchester United game in the morning.

i hope everyone has a great Saturday. call if you need bail money.

until tomorrow kids...

the last day of summer

i know this is supposed to be the last day of summer, but it's 91 damn degrees outside and it's supposed to feel like late August for the next week or so. i would like to have more seasons than just fucking hot and fucking cold.

the New York Yankees won yesterday to complete the sweep of the Twins, 11-3. you'd never know the Twins were actually winning 3-0 in the game. sadly, Boston also swept Baltimore, so the Yankees didn't make up any ground on them. but, they are much closer to clinching a playoff spot now. the Yankees are off tonight and start a series in Toronto tomorrow. only 10 games left in the regular season.

the New York Rangers won in OT last night over New Jersey 4-3. i have to admit, i really like what i have seen so far from their 2 first round picks this year. maybe (fingers crossed) they didn't fuck that up for a change. and holy shit, goals on the power play, there's a fucking concept.

NXT was very good last night. i really love the direction they are going in at the moment.

Lucha Underground was excellent last night. next week starts Ultima Lucha Tres.

Mr. Mercedes was fucking great last night.

You're the Worst was hilarious last night.

Total Bellas was hilarious for all the wrong reasons last night.

part 4 of The Vietnam War had me in tears last night. the stories of having to put your classmates in body bags after just drinking beers with them the week before really got to me. especially when i thought about the stories of my father that my mother told me. he went to Vietnam because he wanted to die. and when i think about all those Americans that died, how the fuck wasn't he one of them? that's one of those questions i'll never have the answer to. i imagine part 5 will hit me hard as well tonight.

the season finale of Big Brother was pretty good last night. 2 years in a row, Paul lost by 1 vote. i applaud Josh for his strategy of owning what he was doing and allowing Paul just enough rope to hang himself. and kudos to CBS for having it be Cody's vote to sink Paul. of course, that means Cody and Jessica are probably going to do The Amazing Race now. those 2 assholes deserve each other.

enjoy some music:

and now some of this and that:

on the DVR tonight will be Vice News Tonight, The Chris Gethard Show, Fuck, That's Delicious Classics, Better Things, The Vietnam War and Gotham.

i did listen to the latest Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast today. you can find that by going here:

i believe mom has a landscaper coming out here tomorrow to give her an estimate on some things she wants done. i don't know if i'll be going to the grocery store before or after he's here.

i think i might get some poems ready tonight for another round of submissions next week.

and hopefully i have enough sunscreen lotion for next week as well.

that's all for me kids.

at least the rain finally stopped

i believe when i woke up this morning it had just finished raining. i have to believe we got somewhere north of 2 inches. thank god we got the soybeans off before that. no flooding that i have seen so far and the corn still looks good, so... in the grand scheme of things this really just means i'll end up having to mow the grass again.

ended up watching more of the Yankees game last night than i thought i would. CC actually pitched great for the first time in a few months. a 5-1 win on A-Rod's 24th career grand slam. that broke the major league record previously held by Lou Gehrig. i would say congrats but he doesn't deserve it. they play again this afternoon. i might check it out or i might just watch college football and hope they do well. they are still alive with a faint pulse for the playoffs.

Ohio State plays a game this afternoon that i believe most of the game will see the backups playing. so, i might watch some of it as i believe i will be in a sports bar showing it, but i won't be paying close attention to it.

got some good news yesterday regarding injuries on my fantasy football team. that just made my Sunday a little less chaotic. while getting that news last night i realized that the fucking hockey season starts in about a week. so i scrambled to find a fantasy hockey league and set up my draft order. the draft is 2 days before the season i think. that should make it interesting.

i'm looking forward to watching some ROH this evening. i know what happened last night at the ppv. i'm a little surprised at the results but at the same time i am happy. i enjoy the heel Adam Cole more and more each time i get to see it. to see him as the ROH champion should make for some interesting story lines in the future. especially if the "Mount Rushmore of Wrestling" ends up joining forces in ROH as well.

and i will hopefully find some time to sleep today as i know damn well i won't be getting any tomorrow.

hope this finds everyone well. peace and chicken grease.

poetry news, other musings, and shit heading into the weekend

this post is brought to you by Lee Thorn. be sure you check out his great blog here.

i heard back from 5AM on my poetry submission from back in August. lets just say i'll really have some fun pointing out where these rejected poems get published.

always fun to get a rejection notice on a Friday. let the drinking begin. especially when you know these were the good ones, the ones you saved to send to a "better" zine. may we all raise our glasses for piss poor taste.

got a haircut today. went into the barbershop i've gone to since i was a kid. the same guy who has cut my hair for over 30 years looked a bit shocked. i hadn't been in for almost a year. feels good to have the mop gone. and, i gave a little better tip than normal as well. it can't be easy running a barbershop in a town that's been dying for the past 20 years.

nice to see the Yankees sweep a shitty team for a change. big series this weekend against Oakland. hopefully the train can keep rolling. and hopefully Ichiro stays hot. he has turned back the clock. must be smelling the playoffs.

thankfully, i didn't change my pick last night in the Giants game. i almost did because of all the injuries. a rare moment where my guts didn't have shit for brains.

laughed my ass off last night at Wilfred and Louie. 2 of the best shows on TV.

hope everyone has a great weekend. if all my sports teams win, i will be flying high. happier than a dog with two pricks.

music today:

Concrete Blonde - Bloodletting
Mumford & Sons - Sigh No More
