had a horrible time sleeping last night. the temp was rising as the night was going on and i could feel the rain coming. and when i woke up and felt nearly paralyzed, i knew we had a pretty good rain. add that to the melt of snow and i was a little amazed we weren't flooded completely in the lane or front field. pretty damn close though. thankfully, the sun made an appearance today and the water went down some. which is good since we've got 2 more 100% chances of rain coming. supposedly around 3 inches by the time it's all done and back into the 30's. fucking winter in Ohio. how i've dodged the flu is a fucking miracle.
started reading the John Sweet book i got for Christmas, "in the kingdom of oblivion". if you have never read John before, do yourself a favor and find him on the internet or go to his lulu page and buy something. you will not be disappointed.

and speaking of my favorite poets, a special thank you to Debbie Kirk for dropping by the blog today. if you haven't read her before, find her work online and quickly make up for living under a rock. easily, one of the best female poets i have ever read in my life.

a busy sports weekend coming up for me. Saturday starts off with the Dayton Flyers hosting Butler. the game will be on the NBC Sports Network. should be an electric atmosphere as Butler will be the highest ranked team to come here in a few years. i'm hoping for a win but a loss wouldn't be shocking to me. sad, but not shocking. (usually when i'm pretty negative going in things work out for the good, here's hoping...). after that, back home to watch some NFL playoffs. Sunday starts with Manchester United hopefully beating the shit out of Liverpool. then, day 2 of the NFL playoffs. hopefully i'll have no flood waters to deal with and i'll just sit back and enjoy.
Sunday night will be a tv nightmare. Golden Globes as well as my Sunday night shows coming back on Showtime and HBO. i feel a long night coming.
i do hope everyone has a good weekend. peace and chicken grease.

an odd Sunday
woke up at 6 AM. i wasn't exactly thrilled considering i went to bed only 4 hours earlier, but i knew i had plenty to do.
got my fantasy shit done, fed the cats (much earlier than they like it), ate breakfast, and got the trash all picked up before Manchester United played.
given all the emotion going into this game, i figured Manchester United would be in for it. and they played pretty much how i thought they would. but a nice red card on Liverpool near the end of the first half got my hopes up. i took down the trash at halftime only to come back into the house to see Liverpool score. fuck me. thankfully, that was the wake up call. 5 minutes later Rafael scores a fucking beauty to tie it up. then, holy smokes, Valencia draws a penalty kick. RvP steps up and finally makes one. very happy they got the 3 points. and honestly, any time i can see Liverpool in misery, i'm even happier.
after that, a quick shower and some lounging around before the NFL games started. now, keep in mind, i've been dealing with a bleeding asshole for the last 2 days. so imagine trying to keep up with my fantasy stats, which DirecTV does a marvelous job of doing, while making trips to the bathroom. fuck, forgot to turn up the volume loud enough, etc etc. as for the games (admit it, you still have that visual in your mind), i have no fucking clue how i'm winning 2 of the 3 games. i did my worst job so far picking games. i need Green Bay to win on Monday night just to finish above .500. but, i've done this long enough to appreciate being surprised when checking the stats around midnight.
didn't watch probably more than 10 minutes of the Yankees today. given that they lost and had 3 errors, i doubt i missed anything. thankfully, Baltimore lost as well. 1 game up with 10 to go. if they fuck this up, they only have themselves to blame. series against the Twins coming up. step on the throat early and make it easy on yourselves for once.
i have a nice long day of mowing grass in store for me. 6 hours of sunshine and dust. i really hope this will be the last mow of the season. and i really hope the bleeding has subsided long before i'm 3 hours into sitting on my ass.
and with that lovely thought dancing in your heads...

ready for the weekend
can't really be a bad day when i watch Chelsea get their asses handed to them in the UEFA Super Cup. hopefully that will be the start of a wonderful holiday weekend.
printed out the schedule for the Downtown Dayton Revival Concert i'll be going to with the family over the 8th and 9th of September. hopefully i'll be able to pull all of this off, but these are the bands i'm hoping to see: Guided By Voices, John Legend, Heartless Bastards, Rusted Root, The Ohio Players, Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Red Wanting Blue, Mat Kearney, Tony Lucca and Train. a ton of music for 2 days. you can find out more on this festival here.
i'm very happy that Berbatov has moved on from Manchester United. he deserves to be somewhere he will regularly play. i'm just hoping that he doesn't come back to kill us. nothing else really going on at transfer deadline day. i'm laughing my ass off at Liverpool somehow losing Clint Dempsey. hilarious.
HUGE series starts tonight for the Yankees. fuck around and lose these games and the playoffs won't be guaranteed anymore. needless to say the competitive juices will be flowing tonight.
happy birthday to lady e in New Jersey. here's hoping life is treating you beautifully.
music today:
Shooter Jennings - Put The O Back In Country
Sublime - Greatest Hits
Disturbed - Indestructible
"Dreams are today's answers to tomorrow's questions." - Edgar Cayce

a matter of free speech
was having a pretty good day. another cool morning, so i opened up the house to air it out. rare when i can do that in August. watched a few teams i hate (Liverpool, Arsenal) struggle in their openers over in England, which brought an even wider smile to my face. and then came a little email from Russell over at The Camel Saloon.
the email was about G. Tod Slone, publisher of The American Dissident, and his bizarre bullshit situation going on with the Sturgis Library in Barnstable, MA. for the complete story, i urge you to go here http://thecamelsaloon.blogspot.com/2012/08/the-library-defender-of-freedom-of.html and if you so desire, you can email the library here sturgislibrary@comcast.net.
i know i try not to get political on this blog but free speech is one of those topics as a poet that gets my blood boiling. between this and the whole Pussy Riot fiasco, hopefully everyone wakes the fuck up already. enough is enough.
i now step off the soapbox and return this blog to regularly scheduled programming...
thanks to MLB and their asshole blackout rules, looks like i will be following the Yankee game today online. hopefully another win after the home run derby display of last night. the foot is on the throat of the Red Sox, now apply pressure.
music today:
The Rolling Stones - Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out
