this was one Sunday i really wanted to sleep in. but, the Yankees are playing the Reds today in a few minutes, so sleeping in was not an option.
the Yankees won yesterday against the Reds, 7-4, in 10 innings. they will go for the sweep today.
a delightful trip into the dark mind of an evil genius or simply the musings of an asshole

so, when the news of Grant Wahl's death last night hit me, i was shocked. Grant was the best soccer writer in this country by a mile. he did an amazing job explaining the sport and growing the sport in this country. i still am trying to process his death covering the World Cup. part of me doesn't want to believe it is true. and part of me knows, having just celebrated his 48th birthday 8 days ago, it is the circle being completed. Grant was also an amazing writer about college basketball. i have been an avid reader of his for damn near 20 years. i think i cried for hours last night as i was trying to deal with my own grief. he was the writer i thought i wanted to be when i was a kid, thinking of writing for a team or a sport, long before the poetry bug latched on to me. rest in peace Grant. you were an amazing human. condolences to his wife and his family.
so, i did write 3 poems yesterday while mom was doing her physical therapy. i typed them up last night and i think they are pretty good. after she got done, she had to have her frozen Coke. she likes to play this little trick anymore where she forgets to bring any money along at all. so, i had to get my credit card out. i really love when she does this when we're at the mechanic or doctor's office, etc. i remember one time the bill at the mechanic was over $800. she swore she had her credit card on her. of course, she found it on her desk when we got back home. good times.
i love what the New Orleans Saints did in the first round last night. they drafted Chris Olave from Ohio State. he fills a desperate need at WR. and then they drafted the nastiest offensive lineman in the draft in Trevor Penning out of Northern Iowa. that fills another desperate need. hopefully they fill some more holes in the second and third round tonight.
