today was the trade deadline in the NBA. the craziness started late last night when Kevin Durant got traded to Phoenix. that was a stunner. plenty of moves before the deadline this afternoon, but nothing as big as that. in all of that, the New York Rangers decided they weren't going to wait for the NHL trade deadline in March and made a trade with St. Louis. the Rangers traded Sammy Blais, prospect Hunter Skinner, a conditional 2023 1st round pick and a conditional 2024 4th round pick to the Blues for Vladimir Tarasenko and defenseman Niko Mikkola. the Blues are retaining half of Tarasenko's salary on top of it. HOLY SHIT, i love this move for the Rangers. i knew Tarasenko had waived his no trade clause for the 3 teams in New York/New Jersey area, so i was hoping the Rangers would get him. the fact they gave up really nothing to get him is even fucking better. i can't wait to see how Tarasenko fits in on the top line and since he will be a free agent next season, he will be playing for a contract. usually that means big things are in store. oh boy.
before i get to what the Rangers did last night...
