sometimes the pain gets to be so much...

 so, after i did the dishes at 3 in the morning... i woke up from a nap while watching AEW... the rain was just enough last night to get my arthritis going to the point where the pain just shut my body off. between the pain, alcohol, etc. i was either in a deep sleep or partially dead. now, it was only for 45 minutes, but it certainly felt longer.

i did watch Pat McAfee's special on YouTube last night. i laughed my ass off that the person who won $2 million last night was wearing an Eagles jersey in Pittsburgh.

i got a letter in the mail today saying the Medicaid had denied my Rybelsus prescription. so, i go from an 8.4 to 6.0 on my A1C and i'm showing no progress on the drug. i know the government doesn't want to pay for shit, at least have the dignity to tell me you'd rather see me die than actually live better through science.

i will hopefully get some poems written today while i am in the waiting room when mom is doing her physical therapy.

i have no clue when i will be on here tomorrow.

grocery shopping went ok yesterday. i at least got done before the rain started.

one of these days i'll find the time to write again...

 as i was taking a shower last night at 3:30 AM after shaving, i was trying to come up with something resembling a poem. and the more i tried, the more i realized i had nothing. this might be my first case of writer's block in years. i guess one of these nights it will be time for a little jack daniels and a trip down memory lane to rattle the cages once again.

today has been a busy one for me. i might have got almost 3 hours of sleep last night. i woke up this morning and made some coffee. after checking my emails, i started on breakfast. i told mom i was doing biscuits and gravy as i know she can only have so much of it to fit into her sodium restrictions. and i remembered how she told me about the cold biscuits and gravy she got at the nursing home. she told me after her first bite how much better this was than there. she just got delivered her food for her recovery. it was supposed to come yesterday. i'm happy that it did arrive. even happier i was able to fit the shit in the freezer. now, after i get this done, i need to vacuum the house, make dinner (pork chops, glazed apples and mashed potatoes) and then help mom pay her bills, on time this time.

the New York Rangers played like shit last night and lost at home to Chicago, 5-2. i'm not sure why they fucking suck at home this season.

Saturday Night Live was fucking hilarious last night.

i wasn't surprised when Ohio State made the college football playoffs. i figured once USC lost to Utah, the Buckeyes were going to get the #4 seed. they will take on Georgia in the playoffs.

today at the World Cup, France defeated Poland, 3-1. England beat Senegal, 3-0. France vs. England should be a classic when they face each other in the quarterfinals.

 so, i spent this Groundhog's Day going to the bank to make a deposit and then going to Big Lots to see if they had any baseball cards. i had a 20% off coupon.

i got 4 packs of baseball cards. i found 2 short prints in the 2020 Topps Heritage packs i got. those are worth what i paid for all 4 packs. so, that made me happy.

i guess the groundhog saw his shadow so we have six more weeks of winter. who gives a shit.

 so, when i was out to pick up the meds for my mother and i, i decided to do a little baseball card hunting. i found some 2020 Topps Heritage at Big Lots. i found some 2020-2021 Upper Deck Young Guns hockey cards at Meijer. i also got some 2020 Topps Gallery and 2020 Bowman Platinum while i was there. in the Heritage cards, i got a Bryce Harper short print and a numbered Tim Anderson card that are worth more than i paid for all 5 packs. i found some pretty good cards in the hockey packs, the best being a Connor McDavid card. i found another Luis Robert rookie card in the Bowman Platinum blaster box i got. all in all, i am pretty pleased with what i got.

i got my baseball cards i ordered from Repacked Wax today. in the first pack i opened there was a 1977 Topps George Brett that is worth more than i paid for all 5 packs combined. that made me really fucking happy. i highly recommend and will definitely buy from these guys again.

i was born in 1976. so, growing up in the 80's and being a big basketball fan, i watched the Big East conference religiously. so, when i woke up this morning and saw that John Thompson, the legendary coach from Georgetown had died, i was crushed. when i played basketball in junior high, those Georgetown teams and the way they played defense was one of the models we used for our team. we never lost a game by the way. yet another damn death in the last few days. rest in peace coach.

WWE Payback was excellent last night. many title changes and over at 9:30 in the evening. fucking perfect.

the Yankees won both games of the doubleheader yesterday against the Mets, both in extra innings. the first game was totally fucking unexpected, as the Yankees were down 7-2 going into the bottom of the 7th. amazingly, they tied the game and won it in the 8th, 8-7. Deivi Garcia made his MLB debut in Game 2 and didn't disappoint. i'm really hoping the Yankees keep him in the rotation. Gary Sanchez hit a pinch hit grand slam in the 8th inning last night and the Yankees won 5-2. they take that 3 game winning streak into a series tonight at home against Tampa. hopefully, they keep it going.

goodbye to 2019...

i won't miss this year, that's for sure. my biggest glimpse into my future came in 2019. poor health and a medical system built to fail while the rich get richer. as for a positive, my writing did become a touch more prolific, although at some point before i take my own life, i wouldn't mind getting nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

i wrote 9 poems while mom was doing her physical therapy yesterday. that gives me 61 for the month of December. not too bad.

i had to take mom to Lowe's this afternoon to get a new head for the faucet in the kitchen sink. thankfully, they had it. i went to the bank and made my final deposit for the year. and then i had to drive mom out to her bank in the county next to us to get some money out. there was a bit of snow/rain and howling winds all day today. joy.

the USA defeated Czech Republic yesterday, 4-3 in OT at the World Juniors. the USA finished second in the group. that means they will play Finland on Thursday in the quarterfinals.

the Dayton Flyers defeated North Florida last night, 77-59. Obi Toppin had 31 points last night, including 10 dunks. some of the dunks i still can't fucking believe. he's obviously going to the NBA next season, so i'm going to try to enjoy this season at Dayton as much as possible. thankfully, the non-conference schedule is over now. hopefully, this will be the season Dayton wins the A-10.

the New York Yankees won last night over the Angels, 8-0. the Rays lost last night to the Dodgers, so the Yankees magic number is down to 1. with a victory tonight, they would win the division for the first time in 7 seasons and would get their 100th win of the season.

They Shall Not Grow Old might have been the best war documentary i have EVER seen. it doesn't romanticize war. it had some of the most graphic images i can remember in any war documentary. i highly recommend everyone watching this.
